OLD LADY MURDERED WHILE MAKING 911 CALL
Mrs. Ruth Price was an elderly woman who lived alone. When she noticed a prowler outside her home, she did what anybody would do... she dialed 911 and asked for immediate assistance.
Sadly, while police were only minutes away, Mrs. Price did not have minutes left to live. Before she could give the police dispatcher her address, the killer entered her room. Although the phone dropped to the floor, her screams were captured on the 911 tape as she was beaten to death before the police could arrive.

EXECUTION - ALPHA OTIS O'DANIEL STEPHENS
Alpha Otis O'Daniel Stephens was convicted of the 1974 murder of Roy Asbell, who was taken to a remote field and shot twice in the ear after he interrupted a burglary at his son's home. Stephens was executed on December 12, 1984. He was 39 years old.
The audio file below is a recording of the execution of Alpha Otis O'Daniel Stephens. It has been shortened considerably for broadcast. The actual electrocution lasted more than 20 minutes

Dick Pettys of the Associated Press described the Stephens execution this way:
"Seconds after a mask was placed over [Stephens's] head, the first jolt was applied, causing his body to snap forward and his fists to clench. His body slumped when the current stopped two minutes later, but shortly afterward, witnesses saw him struggle to breathe. During the required six minutes in which the body was allowed to cool before doctors could examine it, Stephens took about 23 breaths. At 12:26 a.m., two doctors examined Stephens and said he was alive. At the second jolt, administered at 12:28 a.m., Stephens again snapped upright. The charge was discontinued at 12:30 a.m., and at 12:36 a.m., he was pronounced dead."
Georgia's General Assembly changed the state's method of execution to lethal injection in 2000. However, it did so only for those who committed capital crimes after May 1, 2000. All inmates who were on deathrow at the time are still subject to electrocution.

Millions heard the final broadcast of this traffic reporter for WNBC radio in New York City as the helicopter she was in crashed into the Hudson River. The former comedienne died on the way to the hospital. The pilot survived. This was Dornacker's second helicopter crash that year.

DEANNA LANEY 911 CALL
Deanna Laney slipped out of bed without disturbing her husband of 18 years and headed down the hall to kill her children.
It was 11:30 p.m. on the Friday before Mother's Day last year.
The Lord told Laney the end was near, He was coming and she needed to kill her sons to prove her complete and unconditional faith in Him, Laney told a forensic psychiatrist in December.
She woke her kids up, took them downstairs, stoned them to death then called 911 while her husband slept upstairs.

New York / Lakehurst, May 6th 1937, 7 pm: The "Hindenburg" has come all the way from Europe - a luxurious flying hotel, faster than any ship. The pride of the Third Reich prepares to land, and hundreds of onlookers have gathered to watch.
Then, all of a sudden, a burst of flame just forward of the upper fin. In a matter of seconds, the largest airship ever built goes down in a fiery blaze.

Woman Shot Dead In Front Of Her Kids
Ruby Nell Lindsey was on the phone with 911 and waiting in a police parking lot in Inman, South Carolina when her estranged husband took her life by shooting her in front of their kids. Ruby Nell's two children and a friend witnessed Marion Lindsey take his wife's life from the passengers seats on September 18, 2002. Marion Lindsey had a history of domestic abuse.
UPDATE
The stakes for shooting his 27-year-old wife were raised because of where Lindsey committed the crime — a police station parking lot. The shooting was deemed a capital crime because the shots were fired in a public place where the lives of other people — specifically the driver and three others in the car were put in jeopardy. The defense, however, argued that Marion Lindsey suffered from mental illness, which was even manifested in an imaginary friend he called Jimmy. But prosecutors contended his mental condition was a hoax devised to garner sympathy as he faced the death penalty.
