I think infrared would only see my bulb, at this point everything in the room is ambient temp, not very hot. I know that if you build an insulated grow room it makes it harder to see, so maybe this would help.

The air cooled hood stays so cold though, I doubt it would be able to detect much. The only way to win against infrared is to keep things cool!:lol:

Most of the infrared pictures I have seen are of hoods with an exterior temp over 100*. The only thing in my setup that hot is a smaller than a football HPS bulb.

Most helicopters are looking for large setups with multiple 1000W HPS and MH lights everywhere. I'm a small fish and I only supply myself and a few other gardeners with medicine. I live within throwing distance of a police station also. I'm sure I'm under the radar in the neighborhood I'm in now.

i once grew in a house that was throwing distance from a sation and no problems:)

The computer I used to design it is kinds screwed. I'll post up a bunch of .pdfs and an excel spreadsheet as soon as the computer is fixed.:bigjoint:

I have many pictures in this thread and the grow log.

Awsome work dude, ive ordered a darkroom and im planning to have a similar set up to yours except my tent will sit on top of a stand that will have the reservoir underneath it. My question to you, sir, is:

Is it possible to start this system from seedlings, or would it not support the plants when they get older? and if i could use seedlings whats the earliest i could put them into flower?

Thank you for viewing, is your darkroom going to be your only grow space? I would recommend starting seedlings in a paper towel and placing them in rockwool. Surround the rockwool with expanded clay pebbles in a 3" net cup. Run pure water in the system pH'd to about 5.5 (5.3 to 5.8 is acceptable). When they have a few sets of true leaves, about 6 to 8 nodes, add nutrients. Start out weak, around 300ppm. Work you way up on the ppms if you see the plants burning add clean water to your system to bring the ppms back down. I always leave room to add water to my system to correct pH or ppm problems, it is my only buffer.;-)

How early you can flower is different in every situation. I'm flowering my clones after a couple of weeks veg, or without veg to keep them small. Perfect size I recommend is to clone a strain and veg it for a few weeks until it is about 6" tall and has about 4-6 nodes. Place it in this system and you get this 5 weeks later:


You can flower a clone immediately and you will get this:


My lemon kush has been in there since seed but I flowered it at 6" tall just as the rest of the clones to keep it the height I want to work under the 600W HPS.

Yeah the tent will be my only grow space initially although after first harvest i was planning to regenerate a few my favourite's and then start to take clones and fill the system with the clones and put the mothers (probably 1 but hopefully 2 due to space constraints) in another area where i hope to keep them and start cloning.

Im in the planning stage still, trying to be as meticulous as possible as i dont want this to be wasted effort :) Ill try and post some pics as soon as things start to come together amigo and ill be follwing your grows with close interest.

I would suggest cloning before flowering over regenerating the plant. You might as well start from seed again. Regenerating the plant takes a few months to get it back to clonable again. You can make a clone tub out of an opaque box and a single cool 100W Equivalent CFL for up to 20 clones. A mother grows great under two cool 100W Equivalent CFLs.

3 lights in one box would be great for a mother factory and clones.:bigjoint:

I would take your first clone after about a month. Research a technique called topping, you can use the top as your first clone if you wait long enough. About 1 month. After that the lower branches become 4 tops instead of 1. Prune it carefully and it will give you clones until you are sick of cutting them off. Most of the time I have to take clones from my mother plants just to keep them the right size in my speaker boxes.:bigjoint:

Flower the first clones to determine the sex of the mother plant, if it turns out a male kill it. Always start more mothers than needed and that way your not disappointed with males and you can weed out the week plants.

Alternatively your mother plant should show pre-flowers after about 9 nodes or so. My mother plants have pre-flowers all over it, but that is because it is from clones.

When you take a clone always take it just above the lowest node that way it can grow future clones from the last node left.

I tried the re-veg about 4 years ago and ended up starting from seed again instead.

Just finished reading your speaker box thread and it was inspiring :)

My plan now then is to order a few strains i like, grow them for a month as you advise and then begin taking clones. As i said i will keep you updated and follow your projects closely.

My main inspiration for this growth is the constant extorsion that goes on in my area, with most green i purchase poor quality and damp :( I use it mainly for a muscular dystrophy although i love it to bits and would smoke it regradless. I just want to get set up so i have enough to do me without spending a fortune and the Mrs hating me for wasting money on my "addiction" so i appreciate the help vastly.

Thanks for the compliment! I'm not a legend, but thanks.

If you read all of my threads it will give you a great idea of what is needed to run the whole system, I use pretty much everything in my signature to make my system work. Feel free to stop in and ask questions. Get a log going and let me know, I'll keep an eye on your work and give you tips and help as needed.

Producing your own medicine should not be too much trouble. You have MD you might consider a kosher friend to help you garden as I have.
