DIY Co2???

I am doing a small 2 plant grow as my first grow, its 2 auto done with CFLs (18x 23 watts). I wasn't planning on doing anything with Co2 (carbonated water misting, etc) as I didn't think it was worth it, but then I saw this video of a DIY homemade CO2 generator using yeast.

Would this be worth it? and has anyone tried this? It seems easy and inexpensive. I may try regardless as it doesn't seem like it would be detrimental to growth. Thought I would share

Yup, I got two of those bottles runnign in my grow.

I stuff in 200 grams sugar, couple grams active yeast and shake like crazy for a bit.

It works wel for about 10 days, I replace them by then. (8th or 9th day I give the bottles a good shake to get them going again a bit)
Keep in mind you need to turn them off (exhaust out of grow location) during the lights off cycle.
Also, make sure the temperatures are maintained.
Below 20 degress it slows down till near stop, you can warm the bottles to get them going again.
Hotter then 30 degress and the fermentation process is killled and you would need to refill the bottle(s).

I believe it works well, not as optimimum as a fully sealed room with no ventilation and a co2 tank though.

Cool thanks for the feedback :)

You exhaust out during lights off because the plants aren't photosynthesizing and cant use it right?

Indeed.

During the light off cycle, I ventilate as much as possible, as the plants want oxygen.

During the lights on cycle they require Co2.

If you leave the Co2 on during lights off, you can actually poison them.

hello im running a home made co2 thing right now and my babys are on the 14th day of 12/12 ?

am i at risk of poisoning them with a home made co2 bottle . or are you talking about a proper co2 burner / tank ?

because its easy enough for me to take the tube out of my intake but its a bit of hassle to do everyday

Generally with the Co2 bottles, the risc of poisening is far less then with a Co2 tank.
But the risc is still there, and having a large surplus of Co2 during dark will have slight drawbacks / negative influence. (depanding on some elements)

But if you have a good fresh air intake, getting you lots of fresh oxygen, the riscs decreases.
Keep in mind with a heave fresh air intake, and lights off, temp drops occur.

I got a small valve which either opens up the connection to my bubler, or the hose straight out my tent.
I change it twice a day -,-
