diy cxa3070 CoB - fan wiring question

Hello all,

Im attempting to build my very first LED grow lamp based on gaius/supraspl/buenotime/and others designs. I have ordered the cxa3070s, meanwell drivers, 18ga alarm wire.

Im planning on copying gaius' route as well with the heatsinks and fan combo but im confused how the wiring works. I understand in theory but have never done in practice. If i purchase the rhino power supply how do i split from the one 4pin molex to the 8-10 connections required for all the fans. I have tried to zoom in on both gaius' and supraSPL's photos but i cant really see the connections.

I am going to be asking the same question when my artic 11 shows up. I have the meanwell 60 1400. I started googling it, theres a fair amount of info and pics and wiring diagrams out there. Seems pretty simple for me, one driver, one cob x2. Two wires to the cob, two wires to 120c ac. I have seen some wiring diagrams with resistors and circuit boards so I will be doing a lot more asking and research before plugging in.

Wiring in parallel accumulates Amperage, so add all the fans up and do not exceed the amperage of your power supply. [Series wiring will accumulate voltage and current [amps] will stay the same]

It has to be wired in parallel.
That is the Fan Power supply will have a + wire and - negative wire. Each + wire from all the fans will be wired to the + wire on the Fan power supply and all the - wires on the Fans will all be wired to the - wire on the fan supply.

You can use a terminal block to connect all wires or Wago 222 connectors.

Just trying to paint a picture, from my ramble.

Wiring fans is simple. Just put them all in parallel to 12V and make sure you don't overload the power supply by going over max load current.

I have a similar question. I have wired up plenty of 12 volt fans but they all only had 2 leads. The fans that come on the Arctic heatsink has 4 wires..are there supposed to be 2 wires that connect and 2 that you ignore?

I took the molex connection route as I got the Rhino 112V AC adapter with 1 molex connection. You'll have to make sure your adapter will support all the amps of the combined fans, mine was easy as I just have 4 fans, and one of these will go from one molex to 4, 3-pin fan connections. Multiple sets, you'll need a molex splitter , to go from one molex to however many molex ends you need.

sense & control can be ignored, leave open!

How can you tell the difference between the + and - on the power adapter. I already think I fried a fan. Woops.

That's how I did mine. Use only 2 wire's.

I think the artic 11 fans lack backward current protection (a diode), so don't wire them backwards. In DC wiring, red is almost always positive, and black is common (0V).

cheap multimeter can fix that when it comes up again

Yea I used to have a nice fluke years ago and that would have been a matter of probing . Guess I shouldnt have got rid of it. You never know when you are gonna get back into.
