DIY Flood Table

awesome write up. The only question I have is what material is the top made out of? It looks like regular wood, any worries about that getting waterlogged and mold growing?

Thanks

Yeah , it's just 1x12's....I put on 3 coats of brite white kitchen and bath paint that resists mold and mildew from Lowes. And since the flood stage is regulated to drain when the water gets about an inch from the underside, there is really no issue with the boards getting water logged. I've been using wood for the tops of these type tables for a cpl of years without any problems as of yet. It's not the best material for the tops but it's the most cost effective material at this time

Thats it...just brush it on and let it dry and cure. Usually about 4 or five days to cure. It will be a little tacky for several weeks but you can still use it that way. As far as sanitizing it, I just make a H2O2 and water solution, spray, rinse, repeat

What a great setup!! I really love the idea of the three 600w bulbs. Are you using an overdriven 1KW digital ballast to power them?

They are 600w Quantum digital ballasts with the 50%,75% and 100% power settings.

I checked the price of Blue Max. It's cheaper to buy a flood table! And it will have drainage grooves molded into it. I suppose if you were making several, it would be cheaper. $159.00 for a 5 gallon bucket.

I think it would be easier to use the pond liner and cheaper also if i were to do this i would have to have a slight grade to 1 corner to drain the water I dont know how a perfectly flat table would drain all in one spot. Maybe im just a rookie at this please correct me if im wrong.

i think he said he used 1 gallon for 3 coats...maybe what you're lookin at is the super sized one.

on a different note, hey tat2ue, i got a few questions for ya

1)how often do you flood your table (number of times a day)

2)what is your ppm at?

3) how do you keep a mother in the corner of your tables??? what do you do when its time to flush? or how do you keep your mothers going

The pale blue is a fresh coat I just brushed on andit was still wet plus I didn't have mylar up. The glossy blue pic is after it dried and I just filled it up with water testing for leaks plus the mylar is stretched out on bands on the walls.

And I used about a gallon applied in 3 coats

well he said he only used a gallon to apply 3 coats so maybe its a deal to just buy the 5 gallon one and get 5 tables out of it :hump:
