DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

But which companies are you talking about? The ones that use heavy amounts of blue are cheating the system since they dissipate more photons than say a red led even though blue may not be as readily available or useful vs. White in those amounts. (Like blackdog, ufos, progrow, etc)

"Ive seen some commercial lights hit that at 24" on outter limits,"

@Scotch089 you know more about this then I Do, by no means am I saying ur wrong. I was agreeing, that if they can scew their data using higher amounts of blues, or really any color past usable spectrum it becomes wasted energy and is a means of scewing umols reading(totally understand that. I think the one I was considering buying pushed 200 mol at edges from 24in away. Its seemed to be a rebrand of the advanced lights but it is by platinum, heres link to umol. Moving forward I understand that these companies are like a year or 2 behind market due to testing ext. Things that you guys do for them most of the time lol. SO why not trust yall, as the experts right? lol Like when will we ever see cxa 3070 or even better the new cxb in a light. There is a few vero lights right now, but I almost wouldnt call them commercial projects. the companies are tiny.

I pumped an 8k quote to determin the stock at digi, and they get first stoock on 3-11, and second stock is like first week of april. I did however look at lead time when numbers were input, and it stated only 26 more left in stock for 3-11 shipment. Just wanted to share, incase you were on the fence, maybe this will help sway your decision one way or the other. Which means the whole 7+k that couldnt be fulfilled on 3-11, were abled to be fulfilled in april.

$25 a piece is a nice price. But I think that Vero29 for $28.21 would do better.
I would love to get the Vero... But no one has a complete grow of them in action, and then I have to get diffusers because there too bright... I'm a bit stubborn because I've seen what the 3070s can do and now that the cxa2's may be released soon also... I really have no idea what to do.

I tottally feel you man!

At first i couldnt decide too, i took 3500k veros29, it was all good, i sold them to my pal, everything works great...
But i own CREE cxa's too...
Dunno man, how should i feel, i sold my friend veros, and took for myself cxa3070ab's...

But yeah, i feel for that - because i havent seen any completed grows with v29 too, only some of them (SomeGuy) - 0.6gpw, but he messed up, i believe V29 works great ;)

Or pico...the first ever legit cob grow online anywhere I know of. And it was with the vero29 version 1, not the current 1.2 or new 2.0. Got 1g/w.
There are plenty of vero grows, but now days it seems people just add to the current cob threads, instead of doing full documented threads of their own. But they are out there.

Unless you get CXA3070 AB's or higher...get veros and do exactly what you would have done with cxa's.

veros work fine. I run vero18. vero29 is just bigger. same with the cree cobs. All good numbers IMO. :-)

Yields depend as much on the grower, medium, nutes etc... as they do the light. I grow pretty dank weed but my yield is not always there. believe it or not .6 gpw is damn good for me. LOL

You will at least do as well as you did with hps using cobs. I feel the quality took a few steps up from running hps. I will get better with yield. But I do run all different types. Not like im doing a run of all one type.

Just wanted to pop in and say thank you to everyone that worked on data and posted thoughts. I was in the process of identifying what materials i wanted. With this thread and a couple of others, I feel better about my decisions. So, thank you all for your contributions. I will report back once i build my panels.
Currently, i use a 600w hps and 400w mh but have been wanting to change to LED due to multiple reasons.

Glad someone understands the struggle... But At last... I have decided upon the vero29 due to price, efficiency, and a few grow logs that's showed there capabilities.

But supra if I use the ballasts you suggested from ebay above how would I go about dimming the entire system at once?

And for craps and giggles I bet you guys never thought you'd see a 960w cob lol, gaurntee to put a hole through your house to alert the cops Hahaha.

You are correct, they are the A version which would have to be dimmed individually by internal dimmer.

Im thinking of using 5 vero 29's at 4000k and running each at 50w.
Im still pretty confused but am getting used to COB's (Been reading lots of threads for about a week)

Anyone know if these heatsinks will be alright? >LINK< Might run a fan on them to keep them cooler.

Im also going to be using these cheap chinese drivers >LINK<

Also are people using the 2L bottle top painted flat white as a reflector as I read in one thread or doesn't it help with yield.

Any advice will help, im a complete newbie to growing. Got a few Greenhouse The Doctor and freebie seeds on the way so want to be setup in about a month (Already got some leds for vegging)

You have the right idea with your design. I think the heatsinks might be a problem even though they claim 50W of cooling, although I have tested those. It is true that if you add a fan they might work well but you could probably get CPU coolers that already have fans mounted for cheaper and get even better cooling. The drivers should give you 1.4A but those particular ones are not power factor corrected. No biggy but for about the same price you can get PFC 1.45A drivers.
