The A series is internal

Hlg-185h-cXXXa

The B series is external pot.

Hlg-185h-cXXXb

Most of the drivers I have seen in the HLG range are internally adjustable.

So, I didn't do the math but, did you account for that?

48v can become 51v. It changes the amps also, of course.

I have put 4 CXA's on a hlg185. It is hard capped at 143v. The cobs pull too many volts so the driver corrects down to below 1000ma(960ma). And is basically worthless.
That is why I like the changes to CXB's so much...they allow us to use all of the hlg185's potential.
So you are running the CXBs in parallel?

I like parallel because the lamp continues to run if a COB goes bad (it also makes for easy troubleshooting). If it's a bad idea and series is my only choice I might lean towards V29s on the HLG-240 even though it wouldn't be as efficient. I need to think about that though... the lamp I'm designing is for a 2x2. 4 V29s @ 1.4A which seems like a lot of light... more than retail offerings provide for the same area. The CXBs would be overkill... not that I'm opposed to it. Decisions decisions.

No. I don't and will not run any of the larger cobs(3070, 3590, or vero29) in parallel. Always series. In parallel if one dies...the others will get its current. So if you don't catch it right away...your other cobs will be getting driver harder than you planned.

A bit over kill in that space.
You could go for the hlg185-c1050. Probably be perfect end wattage for you space. And will drive all 4 no problem.

In series you stack voltage. If you want to power 4 x 3070s in series you need a driver that can handle 144 volts. The hlg-185h-c1050 maxes out at 170 volts.
This means you are operating at about 85% of the driver's capacity. If you refer to the data sheet for the meanwell you will see that at 85% load you can expect the driver to run at 94% efficiency.

So I'm going to have trouble getting a driver for the 4 Vero29s in series unless I can get ahold of an HLG-240H-C1400

But can run the 4 CXB3070s in series with the HLG-185-H-C1400

I'm not necessarily opposed to that much light, I would have been happy with the V29s output @ 1.4A

My bad forgot you were using veros. Same thing more or less with v29. It will consume 38w @ 1050a/36v. 36v x 4 = 144v
hlg-185h-c1050 is 190v max so its suited to run up to 5 veros

38w/sqft. I dont think you really need much more.

If anyone was curious, I talked to a distributor about the HLG-240H-C. Was told they may have been special manufactured but as they are not listed on Meanwell's website it's not possible to order them. However, after typing in the hypothetical address for the part, up pops the datasheet.

Maybe it is a new product that hasn't made it to distribution yet?

Anyway, unless/until it's available the 4xV29@1.4A lamp is on hold. 2 HLG-120H-C could be used but after factoring in the price it seems the Cree option is a better deal.

I would like to upgrade to the new Vero2 or the CXB's. I already have the drivers and heatsink. I need 2 COB's for this driver in the 4000k range. What is the best choice for this driver.

That driver has a max Vo of 36V.
Reading back the last 5 posts it would appear you are strongly urged to run COBS in series. This makes your driver only suitable for 1 cob.

Too many amps to run CXB's efficiently and not enough volts to run more than one. I have learned the hard way that there is no substitute for reading the posts of those who know what they are doing. SupraSPL has made post after post explaining what drivers to use with which COBs to run an efficient system. There are plenty of very knowledgeable posters about DIY LEDs on this board, but if you are only going to read one poster, read SupraSPL.

Any other option to drive these 2... even from a single driver,,, though one that coud drive 2 is best option.

i'm a little bit lost with all these data even though i'm slowly getting there ;)

Yes, (2) CXB3590s and HLG120H-G1050 are a good match.

I myself wanted to power 4 CXB3590 off of 1 HLG 185H C700B which has the same cap problem ( 286V for driver, 306.7 for 4 CXB2590 .. )

Maybe someone more knowledgeable can clarify this for us :-?

Alesh says we can...
maybe the cxb3590 @1050 just draw less than 77v...
lest say one cxb 3590 @ 1050 draws 72v-74v that would make the hlg120h-c1050 a perfect match....
otherwise we'll have to drive them @ 700ma and get less power for better efficiency...
I'm not sure if this is correct though...someone need to confirm this for us @EfficientWatt

It's wrong understanding then ;)
CXB3590 doesn't need more than 73V @1050mA. It's 146V for 2 pcs, well within range of HLG120H-C1050.
