DIY RDWC - First Timer - Any Advice Welcome

Is this single site for housing a mom or somethin?
Its in a 3x3 tent so can only do 1 plant when scrog’d as it takes up about 2.5 x 2.5, with this RDWC system I will have about 7 gallons circulating vice 3gal if I did normal DWC. I took this approach over a normal DWC to control res temps/PH and water changes better. The res has a ball valve at the bottom backside I put on with a 1/2” bulkead for easy draining.

So what's the differences between using pvc for your waterfalls or the 3/4" tubing?
fundamentally, nothing. Just preference and how it fits your build. If you look at the pics I posted I made square manifold with 1/2” PVC and drilled holes every inch creating a sort of rain like shower head, I wanted to maximize the waters oxygen absorption and the only way to do that is increase surface area.

Just curious how the sprayers work comparatively

Ive never done an aero system so I cant comment, but a recirculating system with a designated res is the easiest to maintain PH, nutes and water changes because you never have to move the plant and water temps can be managed easier with external res.

So do you think it'll be easy to maintain for a noob like myself?

Okay, so I think I have my whole parts, tools, and build list all separated out for my build. Most likely will start gathering everything this coming Friday and start my build :weed:

@fragileassassin @Airwalker16 Feel free to intervene with anything that may look off or unusual on my list :D

Tent - most likely buying this one, unless better suggestions:

Tool List:
  • Drill
  • 2 7/8" hole saw
  • 1 1/4" hole saw
  • 6" hole saw
  • 1/4" drill bit
  • Deburring tool
  • Oatley All Purpose Cement (ABS/PVC compatible)

Parts List:
  • (10) - 2” Bulkheads
  • (4) - 9” Sections of 2” PVC
  • (1) - 3” Section of 2” PVC
  • (4) – 2" - 90* Elbow- Street - Female to Male
    • These (4) Elbows will be used to create an S type tubing from the Res to the first site for better flow
  • (5) – EZ Stor 13 Gal / 8 Gal -- or -- 5.3 Gal Black Rectangular Bucket w/ Hinged Snap Lid
  • (4) – 6” Net Baskets
  • (1) – 400 gph Water Pump
  • (5) – ¾” Drain Bulkheads
  • (3) – ¾” Tee’s
  • (3) – ¾” Elbows
  • (1) – 265 gph Drain Pump
  • (1) - 10’ Section of ½” tubing

Also if I'm using 6" net pots, should my hole be 5 7/8"? To make it a tad snug in there?
Flip the netpot over and trace the circle, then use the marker to draw another circle inside of it as wide as the lip is on the pot. You just kind of eye it. Then drill a hole, stick your blade in it, and cut out that inner circle. Always cut on the inside of the line. You can always cut more off but you can't put it back. You want it crazy snug.

And again, you should use the 12gal HDX totes. You're not gonna be buying each piece of 2" abs in pre cut lengths I hope either. Just buy a standard 8-10' piece and cut it down as you need.
Also I'm not sure we your 2" elbows are female to male. Just use female(slip) on both sides and glue it. Don't think of bends as needing threads. Just buy new ones if you ever were to change anything. Just make where bulkheads meet pipe, threaded.

Also why does it say you need 4 2" elbows?

Okay - no hole saw - got it.
Yes I'm buying the 2" abs as one piece lol - those are measurements already done by myself for when I'm cutting it - same with the 3/4" tubing.

Okay - I was worried about space in the 4x4 with the 12 gal totes as they're wider, but I'm sure I can make it work.

Also why 5 3/4" bulkheads? Just 1 for the pump connection to the res. You'll use a 1/2" donut grommet and a 1/2 plastic barbed elbow sticking out from the inside of the tote to connect the 1/2" black vinyl tube to if you're gonna do it that way. You can just use a threaded reducing bushing on the tees and just thread a 1/2" male threads X 1/2 barb right In to it for the vinyl tube to slide on to.
Other wise just use a PVC threaded coupling to tighten into the wall through the hole in the tote.

The 2" elbows are for the Res to the first site - it'll create like an S for better flow.
Thanks to you guys - @Airwalker16 and @fragileassassin - I think I have my build down *subject to change haha
And I'm going to just go ahead and put in the extra coin to get good LEDs as it'll help with my temps (live in a hot / humid state) and save on my electricity bill.

Figured this was what you decided on. Only needs 2 2" elbows.
