Diy vs commercial muffler for 6" duct fan

So, I've been doing some research on the muffler I need to buy for my 2x4x7 tent, cause my fan way too loud. Thought I could make one, but I didn't want to do a shoddy job, so I looked up some plans.

This one is a great, step by step guide, but then again, you can buy one of these,

for 82.95, so I figure I'll just go with the pro one.

But, has anyone make one for cheaper than 50$ that looks clean and more importantly, is more quiet than a commercial one?

THIS JUST IN!

Mufflers are not designed for this sort of use, I found out, AND was told by the guy at the hydro store. You're better off just taping up your fan.

Returned the muffler, thank you very much.

It depends on what your goal is. Do you want to quiet the turbine noise that is generated "audible noise that the blades making cutting through the air" OR are you trying to fix vibrational noise.

This muffler will indeed cut down on the turbine noise. It works in the same way a recorder sound room works. The foam that is used absorbed the sound. You can also accomplish this by putting your fan before a sealed light reflector.

To fix vibrational noise you just need to suspend the fan from bungie cords.

shop ones are no better then something you can make yourself.
depends if you can be bothered.
they go alright, make sure to use oversized ducting and insulate every fucking thing all helps to make it silent, 1 loose end and thats where the sound will come out from.
