Do I need a fan to blow under the leds?

I found that my second fan was actually raising my temperatures by around 2 degrees and then started turning it off last night. The temps are way more stable but now nothing is inside circulating the air other than the filter pulling through the cooltube on the hps. What do you guys think? The led manufacuterer says "you must use a fan with the led". I would love some opinions because although temps are lower, thinking there could be mold more easily.

Led,s give out very little heat, does the manufacturer recommend a fan for the lighting unit maybe, I'm thinking the manufacturer doesn't know your room or my one so how can they say you must, I'd expect it to be related to the light unit.
I asked a similar question a couple of days back, my room temp is 25c but in the radiated heat its 28/29c with no fans blowing the plants only moving the air around.

You said that a second fan raised the temp, this is a guess but I'd think that could be related to the heat at the top of the tent getting mixed better?
I've a similar oddity?
I have one 6" inlet and one 8" if I block the 8" the temp drops 0.4 of a degree, Wtf???
I got in the tent and zipped up and discovered how, I think?
with the 8" blocked it speeds up the 6" flow which is directed towards a fan blowing the air onto another fan so that the plants are more swaying than getting blown on directly.

I think it is a negative pressure issue. So the airflow is better just like a pc would do. But now nothing blowing the plants around. Now temps are 79f with the hps on and with fan on it is 82-83f. My hps cycles on and off (6 hours of 12) and the led stays on 12. Trying to keep temps down since my ballast is heating up really hot so I don't want a fire and just have it turning off and on haha.

How do you get on with splitting the light cycle, I've actually thought about splitting between 1k/600 during the summer, my ballasts are dimmable or run 4/6/1k + 10% super lumen boost if you like so it can be 440/660/1100w.

Cheers SD

Everything seems pretty happy and I equate it to the sun moving and there being shade and direct light essentially recreating this in a tent when the hps turns on and off. This is the first time I have tried it but happy so far with the results. Maybe I am fing up.

i read the best temps are from 25c to 30 c so both of you should be could mine runs better at 82 to 83 because it drops my humidity to the 40s in flower so I'd probably myself check the humidity and see what's better if your temp raisies I bet your humidity dropped which is good if flowering

If you don't mind would you keep us up to date with the progress/results, i remember vaguely reading about using different wattage each day it was positive info hence its still knocking around in my head.

I've seen plants growing nearly into the light (not my ones) and they looked healthy enough
So within myself I know they can handle more heat but I don't want to scorch them, i dislike having plants with nute, light, or windburn, once it's done you can't reverse it.

My last grows I maintained the air temperature not realising that the radiated heat can reach 30c so ideally I'd like a number so that I can set the light as low as possible?

68-77f (25c is 77f) is the sweet spot i have kept though at a higher temp there is more transpiration closer to 80 but this can cause the stomata to get thicker cells.

I would like an answer for my question from a more experienced led grower. You can get light burn anything closer than 12 inches some strains are more sensitive like indica (these are blueberry). They are in week 3 of flower so putting them at 12in now is what I did and if it is looking like burn tomorrow I will move them back to around 16.

High temperature also makes them use more water so the cf/ec of the nutes go up you/we have to compensate that, i test my run of that keeps me right.

Of course I've never used led,s for growing however heat is heat and radiated heat can't be blown away.
Best of luck with it.

There is no end all be all answer. The plant itself makes a difference, sativa leaning strains tend to want and tolerate much more light than indicas.

When i had a plant stretch more than intended ive had mine be about 10inches from the canopy with a few colas getting as close as 6in away with no adverse effects with my sativa leaning strain. With my indica's they would have bleached tops that close.

Just experiment abit and the plants will tell you what they like.

My thoughts exactly I think to get the best you have to grow the strain a couple of times to learn its traits of stretching, feeding etc

@GrOwThMoNgeR blueberry is a beautiful smoke, its been a few years but memorable, around 20 years ago blueberry wasn't very stable allegedly so I never tried it, I'd expect its different now I just might go for blueberry next time around, it's yummy :-)

I had a Blueberry kush from dinafem, i kept a mom for about 2-3 years. Quite enjoyed it and i did around 30 plants total with it and only ever had one hermie (and it was my fault, i stressed it with abit of neglect). The dinafem blueberry hybrids seem quite stable, cant comment on other breeders.

I think I can source dinafem seeds on this side of the pond, I'm delighted to hear its stable I remember it being lovely to smoke and a nice heavy stone.
I've been away from growing for a few years now but I'm really getting the bug for growing again, I'm going to order some blueberry and have them at least half vegged for the end of the present crop, sensi blackberry I've never tried it but when I bought it I was hoping it's similar to blueberry meaning that amazingly fruity flavour

Do you have a way to measure heatsink temps with and without the fan on?
will try and give an update in next couple days running now today

To cool the LED probably, extending it's life.
yea you're most likely right, well i turned back on the fan

this is the strain, smells good and very stoney high, very relaxed feeling, an afterwork strain, sleep is deep
