I can't help with the watering prob as I am just bout to finish my first grow in bout 2weeks but here's a wee tip if u use blue shaded sunglasses over ur camera with ur hps on the sunglasses will stop the lines on the picture hope u get help and I personally would gradually drop mutes then turn to plain ph water so ur not giving it a massive shock but that's what I am going to do if I am going to do it wrong please correct me good luck

You cant tell by looking at pistils. I have had strains with almost all white pistils but amber trich heads all over the leaves. I have also had strains with 90% of the hairs red/orange/brown and receded and still no amber trich heads.

There is no way to tell by eye. Anyone who tells you they can are fooling themselves. Wait on your scope.

I flush my plants 7 days before I cut. Some people are against flushing so I won't recommend it. At the very least I would switch to pure water for the last 7 days before cut. When I flush, I dont water it again. It takes 4-5 days for a fully saturated pot (flushed) to dry out. At that point I continue to let it dry since it is about to be cut anyway.

You dont need a microscope. Learn to read all of the other visible cues like slowed/halted development, change in leaf color/vigor, dying back of pistils & swollen calyxes, fullness of flower clusters, etc.

IMO, you shouldnt even bust out the microscope until the plant looks ripe in all other regards.

Very true about the visual cues.
If your new it's nice to have a scope. there cheap, and you get a good visual of what your buds look like up close and far away.
I don't use my scope any more, you know when your buds are done. I never rush the last few weeks of flower.
