Excuse my ignorance I've been fortunate enough not to have had gnats.

If they're eating into the fabric fair enough plastic would be a better option.

If they don't eat into the fabric idk why there would be any difference, air pruning ime gives great sturdy root balls so I'd be sticking with fabric.

From what I've picked up I'd rather you were growing my weed than your son, i don't mean any disrespect by that.
He is to be the so called expert and my wife says pay attention to him even though I'm scratching my head.

I tell him this isn't working let's try this. He says use soil out of my garden, don't need no Tent. He was gone two weeks and said his plants were ok.

He got mad at me on my first grow because he said I didn't need no Tent. We let Wedding Cake veg for months. Finally I said pee on it and cut it. I didn't know I could have put it in dark to get it to bloom because wasn't getting anything from him.

Once again is it safe?
Bits and rings are cork treated with weak solution of starch-encapsulated Bti , just a bit of time delayed release.
Like an extra 3-4 days over drops at much lower levels.
Bti degrades after 7-10 days, use at 5 day intervals when you see gnats.
The liquid drops have much higher concentrations, better coverage of all the root zone.

Also don't have to worry about extracting sand debris from waste water when dumping it down the pipes.
