Do Not Buy CAP Timers!

They are shit! I've had a ART-DNE for about 4 months that worked fine. I ordered a spare and the new unit arrived not working out of the box. It wouldn't shut off. I returned it and while I was waiting for the replacement, the one I had for 4 months died, no power light. I received the replacement a couple of days later and that one died within a day, same thing, no power light. I also ordered a NFT-1, received it today, plugged it in and that one died within an hour. They are having some severe QC issues right now, I would stay away!

I've got two of the DNE's and never had a problem. Do you know of any other timers that do the same thing?

The people who are having problems are running too much off them. I have had no issues with any of my with 4 pumps max.

my issue with cap timers is when you set the cycle time you have to reset the unit or it wouldn't function, at least in my case you did.Titan Controls apollo 12 has worked for me.

i strongly feel this is due to user error. My CAP products are treating me very well. My timers and temp sensors are great. I ordered a variable speed DNE and cant wait for it to get here. I plan on using CAP products because of the price/quality ratio is higher then anything ive found to date

I had a NFT-1 malfunction on me a while ago straight from manufacturer. It would double click like it missed the first time sometimes it would work the first time sometimes not at all. I contacted the guy I purchased it from on Epay and he shipped me a new one before I even shipped the old one back.:) This one has been working fine for 5 months now. I do run my pumps through a relay tho. I bought another for a spare just in case.

yah I just use the nft-1 on my cloner but I bought a drt-1 used on ebay for like 50 bucks a while back to run my stinkbud systems. I would strongly reccomend the DRT-1 for anyone trying out aeroponics, as it is extremely easy to operate. and I love it just love it. It allows me to extend my off periods to whatever I choose. I am currently running 8 minutes off /45 seconds on. I am running the power input of my DRT-1 through another timer which I have set to be off for 3 hours and on for a half hour thru lights out period. So basically when lights are out my pumps kick on every three hours in 8 minute increments for 45 seconds for one half hour.
confused?
me too:) anyways all of the extra drying time really seems to help with root problems.
Oh and i can not forget that I have the entire thing going through a set of contacts to limit wear on timers. It took me a minute to figure out how to wire it all but when I finally did it was like a light bulb came on......or timer

Hey since we are in a timers thread I just posted a thread about finding a digital ebb timer for a diy ebb/aero hybrid I would like to build.
any ideas?

some of the cap timers have very low amperage ratings and could be overloaded easily. This leads me to believe that its more common for someone to blow it out then it is to be broken before shipped from the maker.

true, true
I now pay homage to the timer gods. I am but your humble servant here to supply all of your electrical needs.:) please forgive me.
Yes without good timers we all suck ass. I have had a hydrofarm timer for 2years now and works 1000w plus a 400cfm fan 12/12.
And have had good luck with brinks timers also just look at the load and add up your amps.
But yes QC is always gonna be a thing here and there and that sucks.

It would be a good idea to have a spare on hand. My system got unplugged or power went off or something, for about 4-5 hours. The roots were still wet and I never noticed any adverse effects on my plants. Thanks for the heads up on the timers.
