Do Not Buy Feminized Seed!

Not really , just an attention grabber. So heres my gripe about feminized seed. I know this will ignite a flame under someones ass but here goes. I'm not a fan of fem seeds because> Lots of seed breeders use manipulation to create them, resulting in unstable seeds-Herms. I hear people bitch and bitch about how there fem seeds are weak, hermies, or didn't germinate. Now from my experience, I have had some great, vigorous fems, and I have had some terrible, weakly, hermy prone fems. But know that some strains are hermie prone. A ten pack of regular seeds I usually get about a 100 to 90% germination, and some strains 80% female rate, and in a ten pack of seeds I have never had more males than females. Never. And the benefit of a big musty male to breed with is priceless, backcross him to your best lady and you have a ton of dank ass seeds. Really what is the fuss and benefit of fem seeds? Once you have a keeper mother you have her feminized or regular. and regular seeds are cheaper for twice the amount of seeds. you pay 100$ get 5 seed four sprout two are hermie now u have two plants to chose from one is so -so now you have to go with the remaining lady. I pay 100$ get 9 sprouts five are female two are exceptional I probably keep both and one male is stallone. or maybe van dam in his prime. The rock? Im just saying I prefer regular seeds. Comments? Opinions?

yeah i dont use fem seeds as u cant get 100% fem anyways just a myth i have tryed femmed seeds from attitude seeds and 3 others the chance of them being female still was the same of the bag seeds i droped in bout 50 50 so why pay extra if the chances are the same and if u read the fine print from attitude seeds it does tell u that they cant guarantee 100% female i just do 12 each run some times i get six females this year i got 10 from bag seeds

I hope im not jinxing myself but i just used 5 regular seeds and am 90% sure i got 4 maybe 5 females (5th hasn't shown nything yet) But i did have to wait longer than i waned to be able to tell, so i can see the benefit in fem seeds even when reg seeds are all females.

10 of 12! Awesome, case in point. Also, how can we as growers, keep legendary genetics going, or stabilize new genetics with fems? There is an amazing, unknown, unrefined pheno, somewhere in the world, in a pack of regular seeds just waiting to be discovered

You've just been getting shitty fems from a shitty breeder. Been running them for yrs and never had any problems with them.
feminized seeds are a gimmick to get into your pockets just like most of these "nutrients" you pay so much for. I won't call out any breeder names because I DONT participate in such reckless behavior but I can promise you the breeders I have gotten "shitty" fems from are some of the most popular and " award winning" breeders

if you can maintain a cool (~70 degrees) environment and very blue light (T5 with blue grow light) i think the chances of regular seeds being female is VERY high on most quality marijuana strains.

That being said the seeds i have coming from attitude are feminized, EVEN THOUGH i just got 80-100% female from regular seed. That says a lot for fem seeds IMO.

Whether they're fem or not has nothing to do with the pheno of the strains.
Attitude is not a breeder but a seller.
If someone is getting reg plants from so called fem beans then they got ripped. Never had a fem bean that wasn't a female.
I didn't say that fem or not has anything to do with pheno. What im saying is theres no way to refine a strain to achieve the most vigor and potency with fem seeds. I don't have a problem with fem seeds, but you can achieve the same and better results with a breeding program from regular seeds. I can do a lot more with a pack of regular seeds than fem seeds

This has always been a good topic and you will get many variations. IMO: If you get feminized beans from a reputable company ( there are several), you will get good results. They want you to come back and F1's won't do it for most. I started my strains from their beans. I am very selective on which females I select for breeding. These days, I don't have to go anywhere, unless I see something that I'd really like to add to my mix. If you ever get to Jamaica, bring some of those beans home...you would love them! Peace

Hey All,

Am I wrong but if you're feminized plant goes hermie and pollinates some of you're bud, the resulting seed should also be feminized. So therefore you should still have a perpetual grow with these seeds, as long as you are careful and not let the whole plant turn to seed. Just a thought.

I know it. I just want to test the waters on this subject and see how the community responds. Im actually impartial its just been a while since ive been on RIU and want to get a discussion going. Ive had good results with fems so I cant knock them. growing to me is like hunting. At first your trigger happy, and want to harvest everything that walks in the forest but when you've done it for a while and you understand and respect the task its more about the conservation and connoisseurship, you only want the best, most elusive and rewarding prey. I was in Jamaica a few years ago but I wasn't into growing then. Good ass weed was everywhere and if I knew what I know now I would have preserved some of those seeds. Have a mission for the next visit now! I think your right Sherman420

Well said again my friend. I'm a hunter too...in stage 5, if you know what I mean (lol). And a good comparison too! In the end, its all about the love in what you are trying to accomplish, whether it's gonja or deer. We watch them in our yard every day and night. Yes, we take in stray animals too (lol). Peace
:peace:

This explains a lot. What methods are YOUR favorite breeder using to achieve feminized seed?

Early feminized marijuana seeds usually were made with two female marijuana plants, one of which had been identified as having hermaphrodite tendencies, i.e. prone to produce male marijuana flowers when it was stressed. The intersexual-prone marijuana plant would be stressed with light cycle interruption or pruning and encouraged to produce male marijuana flowers, the pollen from which would be applied to the ‘true’ female (i.e. a plant that did not easily display intersexuality when stressed). The downside of this method was that the female marijuana ‘pollen donors’ were individuals which had quite a strong tendency to turn intersexual, and that this tendency was very likely to be inherited by the feminized seeds produced in this way.

Sure, blame it on feminized seeds.
sorry bro but the sad truth is that every club and breeder does not practice good breeding to get feminized seed. Fem widow from a club dispensary may not be produced in the same manner that the breeder themselves achieve feminized seed. Read my post above. So true Zeddd, that's just horrible
