Do we need carbon filters if I am growing in a house?

We live alone and only intend on growing 9 plants. I was wondering if I grow on an upstairs floor and have a black bag taped to the window for light control anyway, if anyone outside could smell it on the outside?

The carbon filter does more than smell supression, it also scrubs the air ( less likley to get mold spores and bugs) also sound suppression is nice as well. Depending on the strain you can pretty much stink up a whole block.

But what the hell do I know I am just a stoner.

way to dangerous not to have it, imo.postman, firemen come for donation, jehova's stop by or god forbid the man, looking for some lost kid.

So here's my question regarding the carbon filters, if I have a fan in the window blowing in the grow room for plants, do I put the filter infront of the fan so it blows towards the plants or should I reverse the fan to blow outside and have the filter before the fan so air doesn't smell. My grow room is rather small.

only time I would say you could do with out, is if you, Etc. have one small auto in the garages and live in the middle of nowhere, and I would probably still get a jar of Ona gel ..

just a few small plant in a house or apartment can stink so bad that its not just smell outside, but you will have a hard time staying in there, think about it, 9 plants, hopefully all yield +4 oz each, of dry buds, now thats 16 oz of wet Bud`s per plant, plus leaves aso. 24/7 in your house, not dry Buds in a bag

cost of a budget 4-6 inch ventilation and filter is`t more then 100$ and beside removing 99,9% of any odor it will also give you some air circulation, so important for leaving plant

now I dont know what light you run ? but a good ventilation can also help you control heat and keep good temperatures, a must have if you ask me

It depends on your set up.

Here is what I do,

I have a 4x 8x 7 tent.

Two 8" hoods housing a 1000 watt HPS / Metal Halide
...... running an 8inch MaxFan pulling through the lights to air cool (on a speed controller).

I am using a 26 inch canlite carbon filter with a 6" fan (see 1st pic) so I am pulling air through the filter and exhausting it outside (also on a speed controller).

Now once it get's warm enough and I get my AC hooked up in here I will scrub the air and exhaust it right back into the tent. but if you do this you should evacuate / exchange ALL the air out of the tent at least once per hour to keep CO2 levels up high enough.

I appreciate all the feedback :D I didn't think about the mold-filtering potential. I'm in a small town so if someone suspected I was growing they'd probably phone it in too so I def will filter the shit out of the room. Thanks everyone <3

I was just going to have fans running on the plants but the quantity numbers you mentioned make sense :D I love how pot smells but i'd probably grow to hate it in a few months

I also live alone and did not have a carbon filter for my first two small grows several years ago and had only 2 plants. I could smell them all the way out to my mail box and realized how stupid I was and have never grown without a carbon filter since, best investment I ever made! I cannot even smell my 10 plants I have now at all in my house until I open the door and then the smell straight slaps me in the face.

No you get real good at picking out different nuances in different strains, I will very seldom run something more than 2 x's (unless it is OMFG weed) But I have yet gotten tired of the smell.

I can't wait to move to a farm so I can get that romantically involved with weed :D

Im probably doing 10 or so so I'll def make a couple for the room :) Thanks

If you want to be able to change the carbon pellets and keep using the same
filter, then consider using this DIY filter. I made one and am 2.4 grows into
it and still safe. :0)

Good luck,

I don't want to under mind anyone's do it yourself filter, but You should pay the $100 or 2 and get a good carbon filter. Those homemade jobs just use a carbon wrap, (no actual packed carbon). This might last a week or 2. I don't mess around, I have an 8 X 36 inch filter with Australian Mined Carbon, not the cheap Chinese stuff. To me this is a small price to pay for my security.
It doesn't matter how far out you live, you never know who will show up at your door. They smell it, and after they leave they call police, & they become your next visitor.

Actually the one that I linked builds nested cylinders with carbon pellets.

....but I write to agree with you: once you factor the cost of the carbon in,
and it is not cheap, you will find that, given the fact that the commercial products
inevitably perform a bit better, that the DIY models are not really all that much
of a savings.

Onward and upward,

JD

I walk my dog past a house and I can smell from the sidewalk he is growing it reeks. I feel like knocking on his door to give him the tip. But if he is that stupid to not have a filter he deserves to get caught.
So yes get a filter
