Do You Add Grow Nutrients To Brand New Soil?

Hey guy's, I have a small plant that I took out of my 1/2 gallon pot and transplanted to a 5 gallon pot with brand new Roots Organic Soil. I have the Botanicare CNS17 Grow, Bloom, and ripe... Do I use the grow right away?? I would think certainly not because it's new soil with plenty of nitrogen ect. correct?? And probably don't even need any basic nutes during veg I would think.. And When I do go to use nutes in bloom let's say, do I feed with every watering?? But maybe just not as much as recommended or use full recomended dose?? Thanks Guys!! :leaf:

anybody? I'm pretty sure I don't add nutes to brand new transplanted soil.. because I figure it would cause burn.. Probably don't even needs many nutes during veg.. Until flower.. I'm curious to see what others think.

Yo whats up man. No your not gonna need any nutes yet if your transplanting into roots. How old are they? Have you been feeding them anything yet while in the 1/2 gallon. Depending on how long you want to veg them you wont need a lot if any veg nutes. If you want to save a lot of money look into using compost teas. Its hard to Get nutrient burn/lockout if you keep it organic.
Botanicare makes some pretty good products but i only use there cloning gel. So maybe someone with more knowledge on those nutes will chime in.
To avoid transplant shock i like to presoak my medium in a sea kelp extract or b1. ThriveAlive works great. My plants dont miss a beat after transplant. I also support them with a bamboo stick while they establish roots in there new homes. Good luck buddy

Oh and when you switch to your bloom nutes start lower 50-75% strength. I like to feed with nutrients then water two three times. Feed, water, water ,water. Feed water water water etc....( im gonna catch hell for that one but thats what i do and it works)

Most good soils can hold their own without nutes for a couple weeks. My newbie seedlings gets FFOF soil , just a light soil watering ( I usually pre-wet my soil a day or 2 before seedling goes in ) . When I see seed popping , I pre-moisten the soil in its container.

Just moist , not soaking wet !
With FFOF , seedlings thrive without added fertilizers.
I can grow like this up 3 weeks ! Then I start its VEG feeding .

This works great because , I usually VEG ( for my setup ) around 4-6 weeks depending on phenotype. ( Sativas can triple in size ). Flush , then start blooming feeding when plant gets dry from flush. Pick a premium soil. When your plant starts life and grows without adding anything , you will be able to monitor what the soil is able to give your plant. Either it's all it needs or which elements become noticeable and deficient. . Then you can " remedy problem" accordingly. Let your girls get their "Legs" without pushing them. Let them start by themselves.

Yep i'm just like you I actually used FFOF every grow i've ever ran. And same thing as you pre wet my soil then drop the little seed with a tail root into a little hole made with a tooth pick.. gently cover with soil then spray that are just a little and let magic happen.. and yes never had to use nutes 3 weeks through the veg. I decided to try Roots Organics soil this time for a change just to see how it does.. I veg for about 5 weeks as well. I do add unsulphured molasses just to feed the benificial bacteria every watering but only like 1 teaspoon. (1tbsp every other water in bloom)... Yea I usually never add nutes until I flower until week 7 then flush like for bout 2 weeks.. But I wanted to see if anyone feeds every watering during bloom.

Does anyone water with nutes every watering in soil in bloom?? I use Botanicare CNS17 (grow, bloom, ripe) + bloom booster.. I use less amount than the Botanicare bottle calls for.

Exactly ... Why over think it. Let the plant do its thing , it will tell you if anything is up. When you start " Frankensteining " the poor little plant with over feeding , watering and just plain messing with it , this when problems show up.

Yes , you can experiment with " custom" soil mixes ( DIY ) but you'll end up with something that is already prepackaged ( about the same ). As far as watering at bloom ( I only add kelp extract - molasses . Sometimes I continue molasses til harvest.
At final flush , I check for a reduced ppm around 400-500 til chop time. You want plant to source it's nutes from ITSELF . Indicating from the yellowing of its leaves. It doesn't mean feed it.

Flushing or not flushing will open up a whole bunch of drama between growers.

I do. Why not? Seems like the choice is stronger nutes in altnerating feed/water cycles, or weaker nutes each time. I've never understood the difference.

The only explanation I've heard is that the water-only helps the soil microbes recover from synthetic nutrients. But, still seems like the proverbial "6 of one...". More harm followed by none, or less all the time.

Part of that explanation was that people feed "innoculants" during the water only. That might make sense. That stuff may not play well with nutrients. (I don't know what innoculants are. Myco and other stuff. Teas I assume. If/when I get into that maybe I'll do feed/water alternations.).

@az2000 if you want to read about innoculants Teaming With Microbes by jeff lowden is a great book. It goes into how using beneficial fungi and compost tea in your garden (pots) vs using synthetics. Im still a hybrid myself right now. Ive done a side by side in soil using synthetic nutes and the second an innoculated soil using teas. There were way to many variables for it to be a controlled experiment though (i was using different training techniques on the two And batteling heat) i can tell you that the syntheic vegged a lot qucker. But anyway try to get that book if you haven't already. Peace buddy

Flushing FOR SURE... Should be no drama between growers on that one.. With flushing it's just simple science, like you said in the end the plant needs to feed on the remaining nutrients in the soil and within itself.. Hence the yellowing, purpling, and orange fall color leaves.. Then you end up with "pure" "untainted" buds with no residual nutrient toxins when you smoke it.. You get the TRUE taste/smell and essence of the buds.. If you grow a lemon strain you probably wont get NEAR the smell/taste of lemon in your buds if you don't flush.. Versus if you did do a "proper" flush you'll most likely have very lemony smelling/tasting buds.. FAAAACCTT!

lol Oh yea flush at the end and you will see why they call it lemon kush.
Hell yea. I always flush at the end. Usually last five days or so. After that you can see your plants leaves yellow from the nitrogen loss. The first time i flushed i thought i ruined all my plants.
But a lot of that lemon taste turns too a hay taste if you dont dry and cure it right.
