Do you guys think I could vent here?

The wifey gave me the go ahead to put in a 4x4 grow tent in the laundry room, which is just a large room in the basement. I attached three pictures of the area where I would like to vent to.

This room has the back half of my fireplace chimney (gray concrete blocks). On the other side of the wall is my family room, and I have a pellet stove in that room that vents through this same chimney. Upstairs, I have your basic fireplace. I do know that duct work/exhaust does run from the pellet stove to the roof.

I want to vent right into this same chimney...in the opposite corner where my furnace is vented. My concerns are whether I would mess up the venting pressure or whatever, or the inability for the pellet stove or the furnace to be affected in any way.

I've never punched through a block like that...would I have to have some type of sleeve inside, or an elbow joint or some sort?

Thanks peeps.

I would definitely want to get a better opinion than myself, but you definitely do not want to attach an inline fan and "push" air into that chimney. This will cause flue gases (Carbon Monoxide) to be pushed back into the house. By pushing air into the passive exhaust chimney, you will create positive pressure and I doubt you're fireplace will exhaust properly. Or do it, but roll w/ some CO detectors and whatnot, plus I am not sure if that "pellet stove" gives off harmful gases (I assume it's burning corn kernels?)

Obviously the vented furnace's hot air exhausting must be into its own ducting up to the roof? I could put a "Y" adapter on over on the furnace connection to the chimney, but the logistics would require me to run ducting across the front of the chimney, to past the connection so I could loop back and into the "Y". Plus, maybe I can't do that either. I may have to just vent out to the side of the house. The boss (wifey) doesn't want any more vents to the front of the house.

Even if I could do this, would there still be a need for a carbon filter?

Thanks for the info infinitescrog.

Depending upon the amount/type of lighting you are going to use, you might be able to just tee into your dryer vent line.

I thought of that, GWN. Our dryer vents on the wall that was behind me in the pic. This vents upwards to just above the foundation, and is concealed by some bushes in my front porch area. If you come to visit the Luther clan then you'd know the vent is right by the front door. Even with a 400cfm fan, phresh filter, pulling it through a 600w cooled reflector...smell (even a little) and sound would be right there for all visitors. I'm legal and all, but I don't really want ALL my wife's friends to know what I'm growing. I just want an ultra quiet, ultra odorless, neat/clean project for a 4x4 grow tent. I'm in no hurry...just trying to find a good vent. I could vent over to the side of the house, but I might have to run an extra inline fan.

Thanks, Z.

Great info and I will dedicate this vent to the tent and exhaust elsewhere.
