Do you re-use your CoCo ?

Just curious, going through my first grow in coco coir/perlite right now. Ended up using all 5 of the bricks I originally purchased to make about 18gallons of mix. I did find a great deal locally and bought 10kg of coco to have on stash.

Do you guys re-use the coco? Maybe simply give it a thorough flush with water once you chop the plants and pull the roots out? Or maybe nothing at all. Or is $20-30 silly to think about and just go with new everytime?

i dont reuse it, its cheap enough, also when you sieve the old roots out you remove the hair like coconut fibres, which i think helps to aerate it

I did reuse it multiple times with no problem. A good flush is needed. I use coco chips now and do not re-use it. I still use coco coir from over the past 3 years for seedlings and clones. No need to throw it away.

Also, old roots are no issue ime. Get rid of as much as you can but the rest will not cause an issue. I did not sieve mine. Just beat the rootball against the inside of a tub etc.. to knock off all the loose stuff and whatever sticks in the rootball gets tossed.

A fair amount of people re-use it.

After giving the rootball that few smashes against the tub, do you wash what youve collected? Or just toss it in the next pot and add your nutrients and water as normal?

Or complete opposite and you run water through it for 20 minutes

I like the idea of re-using and simply adding some when you lose some and need to fill X ammount of pottable gallons. Maybe toss it 100% if I was having infestation troubles

All of the root ball is kept along with all coco .it's actually better the 2nd use ,if u had pests cook in oven for hours at 225-230 F no higher temps than that .I chop up all large root bits some that i add back.I add 1part new coco to 4 parts the old .
