Do you steal?

Interested in what you guys think of stealing? Do you do it? How do you justify it?

I am also wondering if downloading stuff from torrents is stealing. I always justified it by thinking, "it is some guy recording it like a vhs tape for us to watch later".

Eh, I got no real problem with petty theft from major corporations, but stealing from regular people seems wrong to me.

While piracy can be argued as stealing, well hell, i would not have bought their product anyway and if i download a copy it costs them nothing and loses them nothing due to the fact that there was never going to be a sale with me in the first place.

Stealing folks possessions or purses etc, i wish all the evil on the world to land on these pieces of scum.

I dont steal..I look down on it highly..I look at it like this, if someone is willing to steal shit, they CAN NOT be trusted on any level.. I don't look at downloading as stealing tho, but it is kinda the same thing, just way more harmless IMO. But if you break into someones house and rob them, you are the lowest piece of shit in the world.

I have friends who shoplift and I make it clear to them not to do that shit with me around.

I understand if you're stealing necessities from a supermarket chain who won't notice the loss if you're poor, but I generally don't agree with it.

Straight up robbery is disgusting and I would never rob someone. At the very least one should think about how they'd feel if someone stole from them, regardless of whatever the law/society/religion says about stealing.

I use to as a teenager, just for the experience and the adrenaline rush, couple candy bars, couple mp3 players, couple 30 packs... That's about it. I'm over it...

It's like a beer run, gotta try it at least once...

I wonder if this is how major corporations justify keeping lots of money for themselves(bonuses) and keeping the working man with lower wages.

Where as corporations consider even piracy stealing, to me it's on a different level than actually taking a product. If you steal from a store, the stolen items price is made up by inflating prices on the items still in the store. As for piracy, it's a copy. Someone some where still had to buy it at some point. Stealing of product just makes it so others ate still paying for it, even the thief if they buy anything at a later date.

I'm a clepto when it comes to pens... I hardly ever walk out of a shop that sells pens without 1 or 2 new pens. I don't even mean to do it, it just happens. some times I'll get back home put my hand in my pocket and hang my head in shame at finding a new pen...

If you steal like Robin Hood then your awesome, steal from the rich give to the poor, but stealing from the poor giving to yourself or the rich, then thats where I would despise stealing.

I don't steal. I don't pirate software or media. I pay for the things I want because I can afford it. If there's something that costs more than I want to spend at the time I work even harder and save up for it, or charge it to a credit card and pay it off over time. Music, I mainly stream pandora now and occassionally buy a cd or digital album. I'm not one of these robin hood thieves who think stealing from the rich and large corps is ok. When you do that youre not just stealing from the high level execs...your actions reach further than you realize when you steal. I have zero respect for thieves.

On the piracy note, right after the release of metallicas st anger album, when they were suing that 14 year old girl for piracy, I bought the cd and 100 blanks, made copies and handed them out in front of the local
Usic shop to show my disgust for what they were doing. Metallica wouldn't be as big as they were if it wasn't for the underground piracy of their music at the time.

That's fine if thieves dont respect people who work hard for what they want. I never said I was a standard, just providing my point of view to which I am entitled to express. Does it make you feel bad that I have a different opinion?

I know a guy who makes techno and he made a track last year that sold 3500 copies online which gave him 1800 euros... He was delighted with that for a few hours work untill he saw that there was 45000 downloads from some illegal site....
