I figured I would ask this question to get a straight answer. I have looked for information all around. My question is.

I currently have 3, 105watt Sprial CFL's the largest they make that fit in a standard socket.
It has 7000 lumens each and light output is 420-500 watts due to internal ballast
Is this enough to grow about 3 plants in a 4'x2'x5' tent?

yea that should be enough light forsure. you should have about 200 watts per plant atleast. the only thing you may have problems with is getting light to the lower part of the plants when they get tall. but reflective walls will take care of that. i have 9 23watt cfls and 4 17watt tubes and is PLENTY of light

I think its more about Lumens than Watts lol.

You need more watts with CFLs to get the same amount of Lumens that you would get from 1 HID light.

Just don't grow 4 foot tall trees and you will be OK.

I always thought the artificial light get so much weaker the further you get from the bulb so I try to keep my plants around the 18 inch level. I use a lot of bending if I veg my plants too long though, still keeping them under 18 inches in height. But that's just me... Good luck JR

yea it is about lumens. an average cfls puts out 1,300 lumens. mine are the 100 watt replacements and they put out 1,325 lumens. you need 7000 lumens per plant to b ideal. but 5000 will get they by

so you are saying that 3 bulbs with 7000 lumens each is ideal. This is a personal use grow being a Patient. I also have a 64 watt 2 foot flouresent at the bottom shining light upwards. Just looking for a decent harvest will post pics soon
