Not enough of a difference to justify waiting an extra three days for some killer looking smoke, congrats!Chop now enjoy sooner! If you got more than one ready for the chop,do a test for yourself.. dark period one, chop one now.Let us know which is more potent,if you get more trichomes.I believe only trichome degradation will start and that the difference lies in the ambering of trichomes which will give a more "body, couchlock" high as opposed to a nice "head, uppity" high.

the theory is. Trichomes do most o their growing/swelling just before the sun comes up (lights on) leaving you plants in the dark is suppose to make the plant think the light is coming on anytime, in turn the trichomes will continue to grow and swell.... I have tried it a few times and I have NOT scene any difference at all..... if anything I think they looked worse after. If anything I think 24hours I the max I would go...but to be honest I think its a waste of time.

Well, I thought this might be about the 36 hr dark, switching from Veg to Bloom.

I have seen no science yet on that one, either.

Well, again. No formula about that. A sign in my clinic claims 20% of people have a switched receptor, between, Indica heavy and Sativa lite.

And I can make a heavy strain light by picking early and a light strain heavy by picking late with a lot of amber trichs.

So, I do. :)

Its a load of crap. Also it increases chances of mold a 3 day dark period as this stage the colas are fattest, dense and most vulnerable.

From the research that I've gathered and the test runs I've done myself the trichomes that are not active become active while curing. There may be truth behind the dark period thing, but it doesn't seem logical to me. Whereas from experience letting your buds cure for at least a month will have you stuck. After initial chop not all thc is active within the buds and a proper cure is what you are looking for.

Here is how you test this theory. Grab a test bud, dry it out and smoke. Now wait 1 month of curing the same bud and see the difference in having to smoke a whole bowl as opposed to taking 2-3 hits and being fried.

theory goes like dis:if you leave em in the dark for 72 hrs they will grow mouth and hands and next time when you open your grow room they will devour you

the only thing you can do to change light cycles for the better is if the plants trichs are not turning amber/cloudy you can go from 12/12 to 10/14 as some plants especially landrace sativas require a second light signal to finish maturing because their grow season on the tropic is so long and the falls so temperately mild that a 'winter' light change is required for finishing the plant. this is only after the plant has been in 12/12 light or 'fall' for around 8-9 weeks. do not start the flower cycle with 10 light / 14 dark this only helps them reach maturity after they have built the buds as big as they can and this requires light so more light longer = better buds. dark hours can be less for indicas to start flowering 10-11 so you can do 14 light / 10 dark to get more light for longer if it is pure indica, but with all of the hybrids 12/12 is safe for all plants so unless your sure of the traits dont risk it.
also the two days of dark to force flowering is fiction as the plant requires a buildup of the hormone phytocrome for five consecutive days, this hormone is only produced in dark cycles longer than 12 hours and is distributed in light cycles so you need to have light and dark for the transition to happen all you do with 3 days of dark is increase your chance of getting a hermie by stressing the plant, think about it your mimicking nature when is it dark for 3 days?.
to mess up a plant add more hours of light after youve started flowering 12/12 or interrupt a dark cycle with light. hope this helps it is all good info straight from the source - marijuana growers handbook by: Jorge Cervantes, great read and if you dont have the book or just want a good condensed easy to read version mjgrowers.com is his online resource its basically a cliff note version of the book with links to many helpful sites. happy growing

At the very end of my last grow I got sick and was in the hospital for a few days. I had my roomie shut the lights off to see what it would do and there wasn't much of an impact. There was foxtailing but no noticeable difference in trichs. The good news is that it was my best grow yet!
