Yes. I've made my own fems. Did the STS method a few times on some cultivars I did from seed and kept around for a few years. Since then I've returned to some of those selections...gifting beans to friends to test as well as testing a few myself. In fact, I have a few of my own selections going outside along with some Cannarado fems. Everything is looking very nice and is just tossing buds out at this point.

On one of my attempts I hit a Stardawg clone with the STS and tossed another Stardawg and some other cuts in the mix to make a few crosses. Amazingly....every thing in the mix crossed up well....all but the Stardawg itself. While the other plants offered a few dozen seeds each....the Stardawg I put in there had absolutely no S-1's/seeds whatsover. Anyone know why this may have happened?

After 30+ years of popping regs and getting tired of growing/tossing a high number of males....about all I grow now are fems. Contrary to what the folks who never grow them but always criticize them say...I've seen no major herms. Certainly no more than I've seen on reg seeds. The key is (IMO)....only STS'ing plants that are super stable and have been ran/tested in multiple situations. Even then...um...like the regs....yes...shit does happen on occasion.

and make oil out of it with IPA and see what floats at the top.... weee wee they be, but there none the less. See it with many strains ive grown and made up over the years...
it would blow your mind how many crosses start to seed at what is the end of their cycle.
after a few grows of clones of said crosses. They show more and more...

but they do herm...like other say they do not.

No arguing here. We'd rather spend time growing and learning.

Any strain can herm....reg or fem....especially in this day and age of poly-poly-poly-poly hybrids. There's so much history/hidden traits in some of these plants it's insane. It's what we have to play with though....so we take it as it comes and move on if it doesn't fit the mold. Everyone sees and does it differently. That's why we're here. Much like the "vegging 24 hours vs. 18 hours" debate...folks gonna do what they gonna do

Hopin my luck holds and the herms and the hail stay at bay. It's all a crap shoot though...time will tell..

I was gifted a bunch of clones and since my room was not ready I veg'd with 24 hour light straight for a number of weeks in another room making bushy trees,,....when I did cut to 12/12 the plants exploded into bud....by week 3 of 12/12 they were getting big and solid then slowed to a normal pace and finished up in 8 1/2 weeks
they were more than ready to flower ...after being pushed really hard with the T5's for weeks and weeks...

Ive definitely have had more hermies from regular seeds than feminized ones. Some of my best strain are feminized. Get the right breeders and your golden. Fems are good for keeping your plant count down.

why is it the guy in high times always sa9is use regular seeds to find a mother?? he also insists that led light is still not compareable to hid... ive found great mothers in both reg and fem seeds, i see no difference...i also make my own fem seeds but never pollinate a plant tilol she has been stress tested,,, i have never had one of my fem seeds herm out,,unless i spray them...

I know some who only seem to find females... lol Im just not that lucky.

The main point most were makin is they can herm as well.
A few were saying they did not and were all pure.
Its a fat chance promoting an inferior trait.
Sure they have their place..like for people to give others a near version of what they have been growing with out having a male to pollinate with,,,

Don't really pipe up on subjects I don't know much about. Sounds to me like modifications are being made to the plant at a genetic level, by stoner scientist. Is that not GMO? I for one don't believe in messing with the creators creations. Is seems hypocritical to be in an up roar over GMO products then turn around and do the same in your basement. Maybe I'm old fashion, but I prefer not to fuck with Mother Nature, its bad ju-ju. Only reg seeds for this cowboy, no short cuts, cutting corners, or over manipulating a living organism for my benefit. From my experience hermaphroditism is caused by stress, and it's simply a means of self preservation. The drive of this plant is incredible, to realize its exsistance is in jeopardy and to self pollinate itself, to live another day.

No, silver inhibits the production of ethylene and that causes a female plant to produce male flowers. There are no changes to the genetics. Fem seeds are identical to the half of regular seeds that produce females.
