Does heat-stress or bleached top buds prevent further growth?

A tent of a friend of mine is now 8 weeks into bloom and some buds start to get extremely yellow bleached. It must be that they're too close to the HPS lamps because it only appears in places directly towards the lights and only on budsites that are quite close to lamps (and maybe some ventilation is missing there...)

Previously I've been ignoreing these sites because I thought the overall aim was to get the lamps as close to the bottom budsites or those on medium height. Sort of like a "trade-off" - potentially loose some growth on (a few isolated) top buds but gain bigger buds on the rest of the plants. The guy said he did the hand-test for 30 seconds and it didn't hurt the skin, just got warm, which is perhaps nothing negative to an warm-blood animal but on a plant not so sure now....

However, hooking now at the current grow [SOG] then I can't help to notice that both the plants to the walls of the tent (most far away from the lamps) are ALL 20-30cm taller and have bigger buds (and unbleached ones).

It's not that these lateral plants did a "stretch" due to insufficient light because there's a 600W HPS + 400W HPS + another 10k lumen/lux coming from 6 CFLs on 1,44m^2

So now I'm wondering if some plants simply stopped growing because the excess heat did cause this. After all, too much heat can be catastrophic to a plant in nature due to increased loss of water. Do plants react like this?

Assuming you're growing Sattiva-strains mostly - how oftentimes do you have to hang electrical-discharge lamps higher during a full bloom (until harvest)?
