I think not. My roomate won't hot knives on that notion of toxic.
I cant seem to find anything about on the web:joint:

Hot Knifing is with two metal butter Knifes put on a stove metal coil cooking element, red hot to heat the knives. Use a cut in half pop bottle to suck up the smoke well you burn your piece of hash or sticky between the scorching hot knives. careful not to burn edge of plastic bottle.

That's an interesting question. I know that knifed were never designed to be heated to such a high temp. Good question I will do some research.

That explains the jaundice! Im no metalurgist but stainless steel knives contain chromium. Chromium fumes can corrode steel so I think this is a very valid question. I hope your not the first person to think of this.

The more expensive the steel the safer it should be. If you're using everyday silverware from walmart I'd watch out. A lot of that stuff is just plated so if it starts delaminating or changing colors you probably don't want to use it. If you can find something made of surgical steel that would probably be your safest option.

i do blades with metal knives on the constant...
burn the blades with a lighter before you ever use them for the first time... (will be black) and then cool and wash them.
use a propane torch/stove and heat them up till they turn red before using them and its all g

do you have facts i can see?

I'm not sure about any other kinds of metal but I know for a fact that titanium does not produce any toxic fumes. That is what they use for oil curves and that's what kind of nail I vape off of in my oil dome. Just get some titanium knives and you won't have to worry

me and my friends have been smoking knife hits every day for years, sometimes a little mountain of hits in one sitting lol. None of us have ever had any problems from them and no one i have ever met has either, everyone around here smoke knife hits. I think maybe the only damaging part i can think of is inhaling all that heat but if you keep your hitter in the freezer or put ice in it than your good to go.

If you can find some nice surgical steel or surgical titanium that'd be your safest bet. Two little strips for knifers wouldn't be that expensive. Check your local metal fabrication shop. They can order it for you. As far as using silverware....metals when heated give off checmical smoke...it may even be invisible to the eye. It really depends on the metal. I guarantee some metals cant be good to smoke off of.

i have been doing dabs out of a spoon lately.. i started doing research because i have severe breathing issues.. my spoon is 18/8 stainless steel .. that means it has 18% chromium and 8% nickel... ive been heating it red hot with a torch and i have for certain been inhaling chromium fumes my lungs feel more irritated than normal on one side and i present asthma like symptoms and anxiety but its unsure if they are from the fumes ... i would venture to say my raw feeling lung is from smoking chrome tho. sooo ya just thats why they dont make dab nails out of cheap stainless

How about get a rig or a healthstone etc... and don't worry abt it. There are plenty of other ways to smoke hash.

Hey man I don't judge. Use a glass cigar tube. I have used anything under the sun. The cigar tube is "crackish" lol if you will but it is glass and works. I made a ghetto vape that way once.

Stop being cheap and buy a bubbler with a titanium nail and dab away.

But I did recently make a old school gravity bong and cut a hole in a pond while ice fishing. :bigjoint:
