Does it matter what rocks i use?

I plan on putting some clones into some small rockwool cubes, actually they are already in them, but i need to put them into some pots and was wondering what kindof rocks i need to use, i bought some river pebbles from home depot and want to make sure that they are the right ones to use, or that i can use them without problems. I will be using the flood method.

I really dont think it matters but just want to be sure. Thanks.

i think you are referring to "growing medium"

many people use hydroton, but I am interested in using large chunky perlite

This is a large size perlite that can fit in net pots.

There are several other options also, depending on what type of system you are using etc..

Ya ive seen that most people use hydroton, but im curious why, and if it matters what rock you use. Because my hydro shop charges 30 bucks a bag for the hydroton and i can get these river rocks from lowes for 4 bucks a bag, big difference in savings. And as long as i clean it out i dont see why it would matter what type of rock i use.

Also this will be going in a flood system.

river rocks and straight perlite will dry out VERY fast. you will be flooding nearly every hour making the system just that much more complicated. I would suggest you spring for the hydroton. Hydroton will absorb a small amount of water and leave the roots in a good moist environment in between floods. im not saying the river stones will not work but it would probably make everything a bit more touchy. which was my first problem in the ebb an flow. either over water or nute burn. i suggest not too skimp on the medium your using because root health is directly shown in foliage health.

also i noticed when looking up info for my ebb and flow that the hydro section really didnt get much traffic and overall the best info on the site comes from the newbie and advvanced threads. i bet if you really searched hard you would never hae to ask a question with the wealth of knowledge this site can provide for the eager to learn

plus the site is over run with DWC punks and bubbleheads everywhere lol jk guys
