does it promote growth when you cut off some lower branches????????

I'm going to cath flak, and I really don't care, but pruning is acceptable in the plant world. It is done for a number of reasons. I can't wait for someone to tell me this works on all plants BUT marijuana, LOL...

Anyways, pruning of suckers, diseased or weak areas, lower branches is ideal to promote vigourous new growth at the top of the plant. Pruning can also be used to shape a plant and as many know, it can be used to increase the number of colas through a pruning method known as topping or fimming. It also improves circulation around plants and helps prevent mold and mildew in cramped grow spaces.

You are going to read a lot of advice on here that blasts anyone who would dare cut off a fan leaf or prune their plants. I say ignore them and do what you think is right for your plants. I would not recommend pruning during flowering, as the shock caused may delay harvest up to a month. The only exception is to remove near dead material (yellow). Experiment and learn. Keep an eye on plants that you prune and watch the results. If you have a camera, record before and after shots and share them. Sooner or later, we'll break up some myths going around.
You're kinda mixing apples and oranges.

In my opinion:

Fimming is OK if you know what you're after.

Pruning branches to concentrate growth to branches with better potential(usually upper branches) works but definitely reduces yield. Usually done for commercial reasons.

Topping helps spread the plant's canopy, but LST is less stressful, and has been more productive in my garden.

Any time you compare Cannabis to roses, or fruit trees, you're making a mistake. Pruning is intended for human convenience. Ever tried harvesting from a 30' peach tree? With roses, pruning improves bloom quality, but let the plant grow, and you'll get many times more flowers.

Maybe I'm missing something, but at the moment, I can't think of another annual that would be subjected to pruning, except maybe removing baby pumpkins to increase the size of individual fruits. Even then, you'd never remove a leaf.

Ventilation is best served by foresight. Removing unwanted shoots while still tiny to concentrate growth to more desirable locations. Not when the branch is 1/4" thick.

That "vigorous new growth" at the top of the plant is a stress reaction to trauma. This will reduce total yield.

JMHO, but science backs me up.

yeah i spose thanks finaly a bit ov sence :) i think i like the sound of the top ones bein more developed an more potent

wait wait wait. I made a mistake, didn't realize your plants are in full flower, you don't wanna cut off ANY branches at all, it will make your plants take a shit load longer and they won't produce as much either. Plenty of people say that cutting a few fan leaves off will promote more bud development, so do that if you'd like. MyGirls has a video on that, on Youtube. not true at all... it will if you hack away at the plant but not if you are removing a few junk stems cmon? or if your plant is only a foot high. bottomline is that removing those junk stems produces better top buds and thats a fact. will not do any good at all though if your much past halfway of flowering.

on one of my previous grows i had a ScOG and it was essential to cut all of the growth below the screen as no light penetrated the canopy/ screen. it also improves airflow to the underside of the canopy and if done while the plant is in veg, the cutting has no adverse affects on the plants flowering phase.

it will be fine, and your top buds will get more energy if your root system is doing well. which in return a better product. There is a reason the apple farmers cut off junk limbs on their trees, same rule applies.

and again the plant will not stop growing or turn into a mutant or simply vanish by cutting lower branches. lol

BINGO!!!! So many people on this board have taken a wrong look at pruning. Many plants benefit from pruning, including MJ..... like any other plant, just don't over do it.

my plant benefited from pruning as well but i dont think there is any benefit to cutting branches at week 6! thats guna stress the plant maybe hurt the yeild. if your going to prune doit in veg or early flower but not 6 weeks in there is no use.

i prune my plants. mostly in veg, some in flower if i see that it will just be a little straggly lower branch that ill have to deal with later. (trimming, stripping or disposing of) this time around, i did an experiment where i did the usual pruning to most, and left just 3 unpruned. 5 weeks into flower i see a HUGE difference. maybe ill take some pics tonight. also, i have been taking lower branches off all along with no adverse affects to the girls. i think it depends on the size of the plants and overall vigor. the buds are gettign to a point where they are weighing down the branches and those lower branches cant hold them up~ and the buds down there arent that big! so off they go. when the bud is hanging down below the edge of the pot i think it serves no purpose to leave it there.
