Does the stigma of online dating still exist?

In my opinion, no, there is no longer a stigma attached to it. I met my gf on it 5 years ago. I felt at the time I gave it a shot it may be "stigma-ish", but I was prepared to give it a shot. I was in a pretty shitty time in my life. Had a bad mushroom trip in my late teens and basically ended up falling out with my "friends", taking major clinical depression and ceased to exist socially until I finally came around enough to go to the doctor about it when I was 20. 3 months of citalopram at 60mg a day brought me back to normality and with it came a surge of hormones like you wouldn't believe. I needed an outlet and the situation I had made for myself made it pretty hard to meet people. I'm not the kind of guy who hits on girls, I tend to have to know someone a little as well as be attracted in order to proceed. Online worked well for that, you can get some communication going without having to put yourself directly in the firing line. When did it stop being "just for losers". Hmmm. My theory is that it has coincided with the increase in use of social media sites. All the "cool kids" , basically live their lives via online profiles ,so online dating is just another arm of social media, which is now socially accepted as "in". I don't use facebook or anything though. I find it to be for people who are insecure in their own existence in that they have to be "friends" with hundreds of people, just for the ego boost. It's fake, 75% of the people I can guarantee are not real friends and couldn't give a shit about you, they'll add you to their list for the same pathetic reason though. Or just so they can look at your photos when their bored.
yea, a lot of my friends do online dating. They were the ones that convinced me to join one.

Its never worked for me. I've found plenty of work off Craig's list. But never found anyone worth dating. Yet. I will say though...what's with all the genital pix? A guy has to be pretty desperate to post pix of his junk.

I'd think it'd be much easier online

Not that it's hard in person, just that the buffer of being online allows you to rehearse everything beforehand, that's another reason I think it's smart to remain skeptical until you actually have a couple personal interactions with someone, it's much easier to feel a person out if it's in person
