does water get old?

im not sure if this is a stupid question but i have like five 5 gal water jugs that i fill with tap water then let it sit 3 days before i cap the bottles. then i'll use it in the hydro system about 2 weeks later

how long will the water be good for? ie does it spoil?

It may get some bacteria build up that can be bad..

which makes sense, but i'm wondering how bottled water we buy lasts 6 months or longer... do they add something to the water?

I would buy ro over tap water. If not by a ro system and make your ro. You need a low ppm and which most tap water doesnt have. Your water will definitely build up and the walls will get slimy. This isnt good. I wouldnt feed it to my girls. Fresh clean ro water is the way to go. Not old stinky tap water.

its packaged correctly, unlike a bucket full of water.

my sink water is 6.0 ph which isn't bad and drops to about 5.5 once it sits for a couple days .. i was considering ro water just figured my tap water is decent
