Dont know what to do about my light situation anymore

sooo.. its me and my bros first grow and we ordered a cheap 400w MH/HPS with a regular reflector..http://www.ledwholesalers.com/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=666... i now think i want an aircooled hood because im worried the light i got will create too much heat in my 4x2x4 box.....my problem is the website wont take returns and there are no other switchable mh/hps light fixture with an cool tube or cool hood to choose from only a 6" 400w HPS cool tube http://www.ledwholesalers.com/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=706

...i want the advantage of the mh/hps setup but the heat will be a problem without cool tube or cool hood in my small box..i dont know what i should do, will a 400w hps light be able to do seed to harvest?

yes, a lot of people start their seeds with a 6500 K cfls though for the first couple of weeks.

why dont you add some ventilation to your box or go out and get some t-5s they work great in small areas and produce very little heat.They are not cheap but are worth it.

hps will be fine all the way through....even tho MH is better for veg and hps is better for flowering you can use a MH to flower tho you wont get the results you would with the HPS...just go on ebay and find a cheap cooltube reflector and re-wire it yourself if youve ever taken any electronics apart or worked on computers you'll find out how without a prob...there is a *DIY* cooltube one here using a pyrex bake around that can fit the smaller 400W hps bulbs but I would recomend getting one off of ebay then re-wiring it yourself thats what I did. also if your lucky enough to have baught a ballast with the plug and play feature you can just plug the cooltube into your ballast.... just my 2cents

400 hps wont get that hot, raises my room temp by 2-3 degrees, a tent needs to be vented anyway for fresh air.

I beg to differ....my 400W without a cooltube just vented with a 250cfm fan and passive intake the temps shot up to almost 98!!!! my grow area is 3x6x3 i HAD to put a cooltube on it or it wouldnt be possible....now with the cooltube temps stay 74-80

gd, wtf? in my closet it barely raised the temps. i use a fan blowing on the bulb, but its just a dual construction fan for $30. i use a small personal fan in the second room and a t-5 setup and it barely changes it.

also my temps are always around 80

hmmm...I must be in a warmer climate haha I know one problem is my fireplace is right on the otherside of the hallway and that freaking thing gets SCORCHING!!!

i am an ass with the a/c. in the summer my bill jumps a hundred bucks cause i refuse to let it get warm inside. i think another reason might be that im using vertical reflectors with the top vented. i dont like them and think im losing density from light diffusion. my buds are not airy looking, but what looks like a quarter weighs half.
