But how does lollipopping yield more? if you are cutting off lower branches to increase canopy growth, wouldn't the little popcorn nugs measure out equally almost? I just don't understand how bigger colas outweigh the popcorn. Be gentle...

I'm assuming just having everything closer to the light will yield more?

Never tried this method, by i guess it woulkd have the same affect as say on a scrog removing all the growth under screen. Most of the popcorns your talking about usually end up airy and lower quality. By letting the plant focus energy on just the main buds, you make up ythe diff. in not only weight but better quality.

I lollipop my plants, and its is I think more about the quality of the buds. You are removing growth that won't be getting any light, and inturn usually ends up being light fluffy, and of a lower quality. Dome people cook with these buds, I cook with the trim off of my 12-15 inch solid colas. Its not that its better just a different way of growing. It also allows you to fit more plants into a smaller space which is what SOG growing is all about. I usually have between 20-25 plants in my 2x4 ft tray under my 1k lamp. I have a second tray I set up at times to run twice as many plants in a 4x4 area. Each plant yields between 20-30 grams each x 20-40 plants and you can see how well it works out. I'm able to put these plants in with little to no veg time, so I can cycle a harvest in barely more time then it takes to flower the clones.

it sends what energy it has to the canopy instead of to the lower growth resulting in lesser buds, hence all the energy to grow concentrates to the top plus i think it makes the room look better

works best as a SOG in small pots so you can cram more under each light and keep the light closer so the light loss to the lower buds (that arent really there) will be less.

I've given up doing it myself. Just fill my tent with less plants and expect the light to penetrate these days. Maybe grow some clones, lollipop one, don't lollipop the other - get your own basic empirical results.

I don't know if it increases yeild per se.More of a would want 15 grams as a 10 gram nug and 5 grams of airey pathetic popcorn or would rather have just a nice dense 15 gram nug..

I hear ya. Personally I feel it would be more like a 10g nug and 5g of airy popcorn - or an 11g nug (possibly more dense than the 10g nug). I truly believe the costs outweigh the gains (not trying to change your belief though).

you may be right.I dont actually do it anyway ,i clean the base up a little bit to help make watering easier but thats it...but as for why some people do it ,thats what i thought.

I grow a kush strain and cut the bottom third off my plants. I try and keep most of the leaves intact. I found my yield is slightly less doing this but, it makes my main colas a third bigger then if I didn't trim. I personally like nice fat colas. And this always works for me.

It is definitely ideal for a SOG type grow and honestly I think the as with many things with growing that its effectiveness is likely very strain dependent. Some strains will respond better to it and perhaps increase yield threw the upper buds, others likely would loose weight do to the lack of branches.

I kinda figured it out on my own when i had 2 white widows. I was impatient and poor so i started trimming the lower buds off one plant putting it the oven and getting a cheap lil high. This continued from week 3-6 until basically the bottom half of one plant was gone. Now fast forward after 10 weeks flower and the plant i unintentionally lollipopped had noticeably larger colas, just seemed to be more calyxes.
