dr80 setup

Hey guys and gals,

I have a dr80 grow tent that I am trying to setup for my first grow. I need some help on decididing what else i need. I currently have the dr80 grow tent and a 400 watt HPS htg supply ballast and a hortilux bulb. I don't have a hood, so I was wondering on your opinions for that. Should i get an aircooled hood? Those of you with a dr80 tent, how do you have it setup? What should i do for intake/exhaust? What about odor control? Any and all comments or suggestions welcome! Thanks!

id go aircooled 100% as its safer if a bulb blows then the heavy metals and hot shards of glass are contained in the housing not showered over ur garden and id also go with a hood over a cooltube as they have flat glass not a curve which may be more likely to cause hotspots and hoods are just larger in general giving better spread of light.
you need a carbon filter really to control smell and ideally have ur aircooled hood completely on a separate duct to the carbon filter its possible to put them on the same duct but wont be as effective so if you have the money or another option is buy one larger fan and a Y connector

Personally, I think the best way to go with a tent is a cool tube. I use a DR120W with 600w hps, cool tube, 6" inline fan rated at 430cfm and a carbon filter

IMO, you'll need at least a 6" inline fan, carbon filter and a decent air cooled and sealed hood. Good luck

I heard cool tubes don't distribute the light evenly and you are left with hot spots...have you had any problem with this?

Well in my opinion, your tent should be up to 95% reflective and cool tubes come with reflective hoods, I don't know that a actual 'hood' would improve much but I would definitely like to find out, especially if it can maintain the temperatures as low as my cool tube

You want this one: http://www.hydrofarm.com/pb_detail.php?itemid=3757

because it will focus the light in the small space better. The one you linked to will spread the light out a bit more and in that small tent more of it will hit the walls and less will hit the plants.
Thanks for the link. I think I will probably end up getting this hood.

As for ventilation, I got a 4" Can Fan. I was thinking about using the 4" for intake and getting another 6" Can Fan and a Can 66 carbon filter for the exhaust. Thoughts? Opinions? Thanks in advance!
