Draining my Res. Using a sub. pump NEEd HELP

I just bought the eco 185 pump for the purpose of draining my res with ease. It says it has an inline option. I screwed the attachment peice into the actual intake and then connected a hose to that which would run into my res and thus sucking it up and draining into an empty tote. But this is not working. the pump wont seem to work unless it is fully submerged.

does anyone know how to get a this pump to suck water up from a res without submerging it in the water??

Cut a hole in the side of the resrvoir and install a uniseal in the hole and simply shove a pie through the uniseal with the pump attached to the pipe. Uniseals: http://www.aquaticeco.com/subcategories/829/Uniseals/uniseals/0

With waht you have now you would need to install a Tee fitting in the hose at the top of the resrvoir with a threaded plug. You would need to pour water into the hose to prime the pump, put the plug back into place, then turn on the pump as the pump is not designed to be self priming where it has to draw water up a pipe (ie up and over the top of the reservoir). There are also ways y to use a check valve or foot valve. The simpliest method is just the uniseal.
