Droopy leaves.

Hello there,

This is my first post here in rollitup and I'm a newbie in growing this beautiful plant. Thanks a lot to you guys for keeping this site up and running. Lots of good info!

Here's what I have:

- 3 plants, probably skunks, growing (from seeds) since the end of May. I guess they're close to the end of vegetation period.

-Outdoor soil growing (in my balcony).

-Soil is regular house-plant soil that I got from a gardening shop.

- I've been watering everyday with tap water (pH checked, a little lower than 7). Lately, I've been giving a little less than a litre of water to all three of them everyday.

So, here's what's happening:

Everything was going alright until a few days (maybe a week) ago when one of my plants' leaves started drooping extremely. Please check the pics, its the one in the middle. (This happened the day after feeding them some nutrients. But I've been doing this once every ten days and everything was fine.)

First I thought this is about overwatering so stopped watering for a couple of days but leaves kept drooping.

I just bought today a device that measures pH and moisture, checked what's going on. Moisture is 1 over 10 now (at the time of taking the pics.) But pH level seems a little over 7. This is not very good and I'll try to sort it out today. I heard the simplest method to decrease pH level is to add a little vinegar to the water when watering. Could anyone back this up?

Lately, another plant started showing the same symptoms (the one on the right, see the pics).

This is strange because all three plants received completely the same treatment. One of them is doing fine, not a big plant, but looks healthy. (Visible on the pics.)

I've read many threads on overwatering and I still think that this is the problem, but I need some experienced input on this. Since this is my first time growing, I can't be sure if it is overwatering or underwatering, a classical newbie issue as you can see :)

Should I leave them without water for about a week and see what happens?

One more thing to add: There were five plants in three pots until about ten days ago. Two of them clearly showed they were males and I cut them immediately. The one that showed droopy leaf problem first, is the one that grew by itself in one pot from the beginning.

I'm sorry if this is too long description of a problem. But I need some support asap or these plants will die soon.

Any advice is appreciated,

Thanks,

E.

they look good other than the wilt. What kind of soil mix is it? You may need to make a more airy mix and water more or less. Its totally water stress but the plants respond similarly to less and to much water when its not massive stress. Make sure its a very airy mix, is you must transplant them. To do this loosen the roots and turn it upside down very carefully supporting its base. Have its next pot ready and immediately transplant it. Pick up ur plant when it hasn't been watered and feel its weight, then water and do it again. You want to water when the pot is light so get used to their weights it makes it easy. Once you turn to flower you water about once every 4 days compared with 2 days for soil, daily for soilless mix.

btw marijuana is very vigorous and are fighters, those plants aren't going to die unless you continue to stress them.

i 100% agree with lando. Though i will take a stab and say it looks underwatered, over watering hte leaves curl more in my experience. But again im not an expert! just a observation! good luck my first grow the same thing happened, over night she was right back up to where she was, so no need to be worried!

a little over 7 IS NOT that bad for ph! Those are just dry plain and simple. AT LEAST A LITER a piece and they will perk up in just a few hours. you are not getting the soil wet enough (thats good though , it is waaaay better to underwater than to overdo it!)

I guess you all agree that these girls need more water then. I'll do this right now and update you with the results tomorrow.

About the soil; I'm not sure exactly what sort of soil it is, but it is some kind of mix which is alright for growing any kind of house-plant, as it said on its pack. I can go tomorrow where I bought it and see what exactly it is.

Also, about transplanting; I'm not experienced in doing this, so I'll learn a bit more and do it afterwards. I'll probably find useful info here in this forum.

Thanks a lot for the quick response guys.

transplanting is easier to do while the soil is dryer. I can tell ya that easy, as for soil, the best soil i found to use is fox farm ocean forest... though, i haven't tested most soils, but fox farm has some great products. As for your nutrients, you want something with a high nitrogen content. You look like you know what you are doing so i am assuming you know what NPK's are and you want to get something like 24-8-16, if you continue growing one strain you can experiment and see what your ideal nute strength is. Instead of giving nutrients occasionally just give them everytime you water 50% and work your way up.

Hi there,

My plants are back up where they were!

..well, almost. They've lost a few leaves but they're ok now. I didn't want to drown them right after drought so I watered them a lot, but over a few hours.

The nutrient solution that I'm using now is 12-5-10, not very strong I believe, but as far as it has come, the stems and leaves seem to be doing fine, except for the watering issue.

Thanks a lot guys, I really appreciate your help!

I'll post pics when they're flowering. :)

alright good deal! now wait till they are lightweight again (like yesterday) and water again. dont let um get THAT dry though , that is alot of unnecessary stress ! Make sure you got them nice and Wet....seriously they need it, then just let um suck it up, it should only take 3 to 5 days to drink it all and do it again.
12-5-10 is alot stronger than u think...IF u use it every watering .... i dont think its TOO strong but it is not weak!
i am not an outdoor guy but i think it is proly time to start useing a bloom food ? not sure on that one though? my Earthjuice nutes are WAY weaker than that but its for every watering. GOOD LUCK!

Nice. :)

I use the 12-5-10 once every ten days or so, they should be fine with it.

I guess it is close to flowering stage but I have not seen any pistils yet. Should I start using bloom food before they bloom? I'm living right in the middle of the city meaning that there is no pitch black darkness for 12 hours, so it may take a while before these plants actually bloom. If they ever bloom :) I think I see 11th node on top of one of them.

Anyways,

Thanks a lot again,

E.

get a empty refrigerator box or make one out of wood with one end, top or bottom, out of it and put it on your plants to block the light and start premature flower.

Good idea, I was thinking of hanging some sort of thick cloth on them but this would work better obviously :)

Thanks.

I'm 2 weeks into an indoor grow and I'm having similar issues with the drooping leaves on one of my kids. I just transplanted today into Fox Farm's Ocean Forest and have been using water with lemon juice (i plan on switching to vinegar once this gallon of water is done). Hopefully my plant perk up like yours did.
