Dry enough to trim??

Today will be day 4 of drying, and all the plants were hung as a whole. Drying in the dark grow tent with the temp at 66 F and 60-64% RH. First day or two RH was about 55%. Some of the drying plants feel crispy to the touch on the outside but all the stems are still very flexible.

Would it be worth trimming and jarring some of the most crispy of buds to see where the jarred RH is? Very new to drying and curing so I'm looking for a little help. Not sure if I should wait longer until some of the smaller branches seem dryer or if I should be deciding how dry they are by touch. Thanks!

The outsides always feel crispy quite a while before the inside is dry enough to jar. If you have your tent at 60-64%, those are ideal curing conditions and no need to cure in jars.

Ok I will continue to let them all sit in the tent for a while then. I was just concerned about over drying them past the point where they wouldn't cure. The first day or two I had a fan in the tent on low pointed at the wall for airflow. Some of the lowest hanging buds near the fan seemed to have really dried out. Thanks for the input!

I tell by the small, thin offshoot branches. When I bend over a couple and they snap, I jar. The larger branches should still be able to bend over without breaking.

Yep fans overdry buds but thats what happens when you use a tent to dry in. You should just hang in a room as a tent has too much airflow and wind.

Also drying isnt what we wait for, smell and taste is, wait till then to jar not before.

Hanging them outside the tent would be ideal as it would free up growing space and the basement temps and RH are almost ideal drying wise with no modifications. The problem is that my wife doesn't enjoy the smell. Opening the tent during flower and leaving it open long enough for me to water all 6 plants was enough to make the entire basement stink. So I have to work with limitations.

I am still a noob so sometimes I still make stupid mistakes, like not listening to advice from successful growers and doing what I think is best instead. Yesterday I trimmed the smallest plant of the six, that seemed very dry. Trimmed it was only 20g, that's how small it was. Anyways despite none the branches snapping (or being close) I thought it was ready. Jarred and after 1 day RH is 68%. I'm letting them sit out for a bit before rejarring and will see if I can get it lower. (They do smell fantastic sitting next to me though)

So a mistake made, but one I can learn from. Thank you all for your advice still, I truly do appreciate it!

Your jarring too early if its not hung for two weeks.

A basement with some air exchange like a few vents will do but do a test bud first, adjust if needed.

Yeah everything else is staying in there for a while. I have a feeling they won't be ready until that 14 day mark. Thanks.

I was concerned with mold with the size of some of the colas, they were extremely dense. Although I think having the RH 50-55% the first two days might have been fine for getting them to a safe level of dryness, without the fan. Maybe I was just paranoid, IDK. :wall:

I harvest my fat girls like those a day or two after they are due for watering so they are already starting to dry out before they even get cut. Never have problems.
