Drying Bud That Smells Like Fish!

Wow! 2nd day into the hanging/drying process and my buds from 1 plant smell like fish! Has this ever happened to any of you? Will the smell leave after fully drying/curing?

Facts: FFOF soil, strain is Super Lemon Haze, nutes used were 1/2 dosage of FF's trio & molasses.

I'm assuming it's because I had to chop early and only did straight water 1 week up until harvest rather than the normal 2 weeks.

Any words of wisdom or encouragement are deeply appreciated!

two possible reasons... that i have encountered in the past... 1. harvested to early (as u mentioned u did)... terpenes need time to ooze out in the last weeks of life...
2. u left to much trim on and your smelling the leaves... but with that lemon haze leaves shouldn't over power the bud

Thanks for your thoughts, PotSmell. Definitely not too many leaves as I trimmed pretty damned close. Hopefully it's #1 so I can save this beautiful grow from being salmon skunk, permanently. The other 5 plants have about another week left so I'm flushing the hell out of them today to hopefully ensure that this doesn't happen again!

I can't tell you what it was like being dried but about a year ago, I grabbed some Super Lemon Haze from a local collective and it smelled like dead fish when I got it home and opened the jar. It tasted horrible and it made me feel a bit sick. I have no idea what was wrong with it but I am assuming it got fucked up during the cure. It was probably mold or some other issue.. I just tossed it and never went back there again.. It was really gross.. I am not saying that this is what your plants will do, I am just telling you one thing that happened to me.. Good luck with yours.. Do you have proper ventilation, temp and humidity??

Bulldog73,

wow. not what i wanted to hear. yes, I'm really meticulous about proper ventilation, temp, and humidy during drying. it's being done in a very clean place. i'm not seeing any mold and not thinking it would have enough time to grow being only 2 days into the drying process. i chopped on day 63 into flower because the buds were as plump as they were going to get and all hair were dark. non the of triches were close to being amber as i'm trying to avoid the couch lock type high.

But definitely hope the fish smell goes away soon. the other 5 ladies were just flushed and will be taking them 70 days (10 wks) at the very least.

Bulldog sounds like you smoked some weed that was dried improperly with a food dehydrator...

Net... im going to solve your smell issue... before you harvest give the plants at least 3 days of uninterrupted darkness with no water... and you'll smell the difference.

as for your current situation... just let the buds get really dry (like crumbly dry) before jarring or bagging. then after some time the smell should come around... but this is if you can wait a couple months

PotSmell,

Interesting. I'll definitely do as you prescribe. Was leaning towards that route, anyways. I already notice less of a fishy smell on the 3rd day of hanging/drying. No signs of the bud's real inherent smell (lemon) yet but i imagine i won't be getting that until weeks after curing (if at all).
