When I hang up my buds to dry do I have to have the room dark or can there be lights
drying bud??

They should be kept in the dark. Even when you take them down after their initial dry, you should keep them in the dark until they are fully cured. I still use colored jars (green Ball jars) to store in even after they are cured.

Can I use food grade plastic jars or does it have to be glass

Food grade like rubbermaid is fine I habe used em before but keep it kinda cool and dark for dry and cure!

Anything that is air-tight and that has not been used for something else. Plastic holds flavors and odors, glass doesn't.

I just use unbleached grocery paper bags anymore for drying and curing.( And then later it goes into glass jars )
I don't even bother to hang it up.
Just trim the bud, put a layer of bud into bag, roll it up and throw it somewhere cool. You can stack layers by using shredded paper bags in between layers of bud.
However you dry...keep it cool and dark. And never use plastic...uggh.
Ball jars work great and only cost about 1 dollar a piece. ( I buy them by the case..12 jars about 10 bucks )

I would distinguish between drying and curing. Airtight for drying isn't desireable (IMO). Hang in a closet, or get a cardboard moving box from Home Depot (18x18 square) and run stiff wire as "rods" across it to hang the buds on. Or, a paper bag. The permeability will help them dry slowly/uniformly. When they get down to where they'll produce 70% humidity in an air-tight container (takes some experience to know what the buds/stems/leaves feel like at that point) then lay them (or clip the buds into) a plastic Sterilte bin for more controlled drying down to 60-65%. Then airtight jars for curing. As you burp you can use boveda packs to help hold it in the 62% range despite the exchange of air. Or, you can exhale into the jar after burping.
A lot of this depends on your climate's humidity. I'm in an extremely dry enviornment and closet drying goes too fast. Cardboard box works well. Sterlite plastic show boxes work well for 72 down to 65. I don't even have to open the lid. It fits so loosely it gets down to 65 on its own in a week. (But, I still remove the lid, fan the buds, toss the buds by hand.).
If you go airtight while drying it will take you a long time to get down to 60-65% unless you pour the buds out on a cookie sheet and let them air for a few minutes every day. (In my dry environment, that's undesirable because they dry too unevenly.).

Thats wat the burping dose it allows the moist air out dryer air in.... it slows the drying possess down after its dry enough to come of the line and if done correctly it will finish drying and cure your bud to perfection i line dry mine untill you can smoke it then i paper bag it for a couple days depending on how hot or dry the air is in my house or untill the stem snaps but not completely just makes the sound and then i jar and burp untill my stims crack pop off then i seal it up put somewere nice and cool untill i need itAir tight, can't dry. When I burp them, I don't follow a schedule. I try to watch each of them to see when they need to be burped. At any given time there are at least four plants at some point of the curing process. My step by step is this:
1. Trim off fanners and make them pretty.
2. Hang them on coat hangers until they are dry to the touch (could be 3 days, could by a week).
3. Take them off the stems into air-tight containers sealed for 8-12 hours (until wet)
4. Remove the cover for 6-8 hours (until dry).
5. Put the lid back on until wet again (could be a couple days).
6. Remove lid until dry again.
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until it stops getting wet.
8. Smoke away. (I cure for a couple months still before I smoke, but most people don't)
