drying buds on plant without chopping.

Does anyone know how to dry buds on plant without cutting it down? I've dried plants cutting at base, then hanging but how do i dry it without chopping? I was thinking bout pulling the plant out the pot and placing a garbage bag around the roots and soil. Tying the bag at base of plant, then hanging plant like usual. Will this prolong the drying process? Any help would be appreciated...........

I'm curious to see what people have to say since I've had a Tangerine Dream plant sitting ony nightstand for a couple weeks now...not sure why.

Anyway I don't think hanging it would be necessary, what would the benefit of that be?

Well i was thinking that leaves would protect the trichomes when drying upside down but maybe youre right. Maybe i could leave it standing and let it dry like that but when should i stop watering?

I've read somewhere that in Lebanon the hash producers leave marijuana plants in the field until they are naturally dried and brown color.

Why don't you just chop?
Is you issue you still want to grow the same plant after harvest?
You can always site harvest, do the main cola and some other popcorn and let the rest of the popcorn swell.

Ok, my two cents, First off if you leave the rootball intact then the plant is still a living, breathing plant, so all you are doing is stressing the hell out of it. If you leave the plant in the ground and it dries look at it from the standpoint of other crops, corn or soy beans, the plant has finished its life cycle, it is dead, IMHO not the thing to do for a harvest of this crop. Everything is past its peak THC wise, to me you just wasted your whole grow. The idea is to harvest when the trichomes are at your desired level, not when everything has degraded.
If you are wanting to dry it as slowly as possible without mold then harvest the entire plant and hang whole. The plant will only be able to use the moisture left in the plant itself. In almost 7 years in this forum I do had it you for coming up with a question I haven't seen before. Best of Luck to you.

Ive also read somewhere that some grower from different parts of the world do this but has anyone ever actually tried it. I was worried about the bud degrading like CANEFAN mentioned but maybe if i timed it right, it could work. How long will it take for bud to degrade, does anyone have experience with this subject? I have 3 plants ready for harvest in like 5-6 weeks and might try with 1 of my plants.

Now that you mention that, I do remember reading that somewhere, Jorge Cervantes book maybe? Anyway my concern with that would be a lack of air to the bud, and mold. Depends on the environment and grower preference I guess.

I'm gonna leave this Tangerine Dream sit here for a while. I haven't watered her in weeks and most of her fan leaves are yellow/brown and dying off. We'll see what happens and I'll let ya know.
I am noticing some lower flowers doing some weird things, maybe I'll get a photo up later

Have you checked the trichomes to see if bud degraded? At what wk in flower did you stop watering?

I stopped watering about week 9 I think, right about when I harvested everything else in the room. This plant wasn't particularly trichome dense at any point, but I haven't checked for degradation. Maybe later I'll grab the scope out of my grow house, but I'm in the main house now and it's raining.

What I can say is that I'm not seeing anything particularly awesome, it's not packing on trichs or really anything else ... Other than dying. I can also say that, had I harvested this plant like a normal person, it'd probably be just about done curing by now and I could be smoking it...but I didn't, because I'm not, so I can't.
So there's that

I had a small plot outdoors that I didn't visit all summer, I went to check at the end of september and there wasnt rain for over three weeks straight, both had dried completely out and there was a bit of bud rot (10%) bu the drying stopped it in it's tracks, I cut off the buds and put them straight into jars and it was fire...I'm not sure how much credibility it lends but it's definately possible.

Now that i did a search on "vine ripening" . I found that people have done this. I might give it a try with one my chocolate kush. Aslong as i control the enviroment, it could work.............

How tall is she Jerry?

What size pot is that?

Ha-ha she will look prettier when the leaves drop.
Haha she's about 2.5ft tall I'd say. It's a 3 gallon pot.
I think I might take her down tomorrow, although I have grown somewhat accustomed to seeing her on my nightstand...like a sad little mascot haha.

Did you have a chance to look at the trichomes on that tangerine dream?
