Drying Hydro

Hey guys, I just harvested half of my plant yesterday, and I have been growing in aero/hydro. I've read some posts where hydro growers say that their hydroponically grown buds don't take as long to dry. I read one user dried for 5-7 days and it was overkill, and it over dried their plants and ruined their harvest.

So, I was just wondering if there are any experienced hydro growers who would like to comment on this. About how long should I let them dry before curing in jars? Is it really true that hydro plants dry quicker than soil grows? Here is a pic of what I cut down so far. It was in an aerogarden actually and grown with CFLs.

Since the buds are fluffy the might dry faster, Not because of hydro though because the lights. I would just check them daily until the stems snap, some of the buds may dry a bit faster it depends on size you could be done in 3 days with some really large nugs it could take up to 2 weeks, in your case i would check daily though, if you notice them drying to fast put them in a paper bag and close it they will dry a bit slower, then put into jars opening jars daily for about a week then seal jars for another 5 weeks and you are done and ready to smoke. If they get to dry just add a piece of lettuce or orange peel to the jar for a few hours a day to add some moisture, i heard of a good techniqque on hear i believe it was from fdd about puting some wet cotton wrapped in some aluminum foil to add moisture.

I second this request.... i had mine drying for about 6 days, and it was way too dry. also, i think it dried too fast cause it tasted like SHIT, well , not to me but to others who smoked it. i don't know what I did wrong.

Thx Kaos, yea I've read all the techniques about re-moistening and the fdd cotton ball thing. I just don't want to ruin this good thing I got going. I'll be checking every day like you said, then putting them into jars after they're dried. Good call about the lights though, i know that's really what made them so fluffy. Was just wondering if hydro really effected the drying process. Thanks again man.

From my experience no it doesnt, To Orecal how long did you let them cure that grassy hay taste and smell will stay with some strains for 5 weeks or longer, it really takes a patient cure to get the best taste out of your herb. Oh and a good flush but some people do prefer the natural un cured smell and flavor of marijuana i am not one of those people

well, it's still sitting in the jar, but now I only burb it open ever few days just to smell it, cause it smells awesome. i flushed for about 4 days, i know thats not enough, it was my very first plant. I've got some flushing now that have been flushing for 9 days now, and I'm gunna be able to keep much better track of these. but I should try the other shit again and see if it tastes any better

Okay, so I've been drying for 3 days now, and my buds feel dry but the stems still don't snap. I'm guessing they dried quicker than the stems b/c they are so fluffy. I think this is what I was worried about. Should I keep drying until I can snap my stems or just judge by the texture of the nugs? Moreover, if I was to go ahead and put them in jars (even though they may not be quite dry yet) would this affect anything in the curing process? I'm sure curing before drying completely could potentially lead to mold, so I plan to let them get a bit more dry. I guess my real question is whether or not the stem snapping is a real indication of dry bud or if my fluffy nugs will be dry enough even before the stems are. Sorry I make things so complicated...
