Drying the crop, best method for nice buds?

I recently harvested my first pant. and hung it upside down to dry, but the buds come out really loose and flaky. i did a small batch in newspaper to press it a bit more together and the buds came out nice and dense but didnt have that "bag appeal" looking like proper buds you buy. Was wondering what is the best way to get those results, so that maybe with my next harvest the buds look better? any help welcome. thanks :))

Temps: 65-75 F
rH (humidity): 50-60 (I personally say keep it above 40 if you can)

Hang them upside down after you trim <--- best way.

No light, no direct air (fan blowing in room on low is good, not directly aimed at plants if possible).

The longer this drying process takes the better.

Some people like to wait until the stems snap until they start to cure (in jars, burped daily), but some people like to wait until the stems bend a little.

how long will it take for stems to snap at those conditions you listed?
I've heard about a week.

Personally, I usually dry in about 3 full days because I struggle to keep rH % above 40. I also have to use a carbon filter with fan, so the air does move a little faster than I'd want...but it gets the job done.

My best advice, do not over-dry. If you under dry, you can always dry some more. The idea is to have moisture still in the inside part of the buds, while the outside is slightly crispy. When you've achieved this state, it becomes OK to put them into jars (or paper bags).

But the ultimate golden rule is that you want to try and pro-long the drying/curing process as long as you can. The Slower, The Better.

what do you do if you do overdry? i was thinking of putting in some nondried fanleaves in thejar to try to rehydrate it...

I've heard of people putting them straight into zip lock bags after the stems are ready to snap. Is this a bad thing or not so bad if you don't have jars handy? Also how much can be packed in jars to let them cure the best?

Buttsack lol..nice name.

I don't think it would be such a bad thing to put them into bags if the stems snap, that means they are dry and the threat of mold is minimal. Just open the bags a few times a day, or not...and just smoke it :)

As for packing jars, about an inch from the top would be OK, just make sure they aren't compressed, and make sure to shake and/or move them around when you open them up daily.

Haha thanks mate. Would fermenting in the jars be a better smoke or is it just because of mold is the reason that jars is best?

Curing in the jars is always the best bet. It improves taste and smell, improves bag appeal, and arguably improves potency.
