Drying the Harvest

So I'm a little confused on the drying process. Some people say air circulation is a good thing, while others say no fans. My last two harvests went ok. I had them drying in a covered shelf thing. The first time I kind of winged it. There was a fan blowing in the room but not directly at the buds. After about 4 days they were dry but while I was cutting them into little nugs, about 2-3 nugs had white spider-web stuff, which I figured was mold. Next harvest I had 2 small desk fans blowing the buds. Took about 4 days and same result. Lost some smoke to mold. Should I not have any fans at all? And also, where I live is pretty humid. Maybe a dehumidifier? Thanks (-.-)

not 100% sure as i havent had this problem yet mate but if it is mould it might be worth laying it out on newspapers and then covering with newspaper to help with moisture i don't know that this will work i only suggest it because after some thought that's what i would do aswell as the dehumidifier, i'd rather over dry weed than mouldy weed i don't know how the dehumidifiers work but i'm pretty sure you could keep an eye on it and try to keep it to about 50% humidity, hopefully some1 who's had this problem can chime in and give a better answer but failing that i'd do the above mate

Keep iindirect air flow on them, have the fan facing the wall opposite of where the plants are and facing away from them. how often did you flip your buds? you may need to find a dehumidifier or better place to dry. did you hang them or just have them sitting in the covered shelf thing?

Thanks for the help guys. I had strings going across the shelf and I hung the buds on them. There was a small fan on the shelf blowing the buds. I should probably make a drying box, yeah? I've been thinking about that for awhile now.

Yes, you should if what youve tried so far hasnt worked, or come up with a way to make what youve tried before work, what were the temps and humidity like the last 2 times you tried to dry a harvest? you said pretty humid but how much is that? I think thats a big part of the issue.

I harvest in about 5 stages over a week or two. I take the tops from each session and cut off the leaves placing them and the buds in separate brown paper sacks giving a little hand flip each day till they get crackly feeling then into glass jars. Burp the jars each day till the stems get brittle then move them to the refrigerator and start burping once a week. Prob not the best way to do it but I dont have any room to be hanging stuff in the dark. Seems to work ok. For example I currently have 4 bags of buds and 4 bags of leaves/stems at various stages of drying. Some of it is wet and some of it is crinkly.

Well I live in HI so temps are around 84-90 ish in the summer, humidity around 50-60 on a sunny day. Cloudy/rainy days can be 70 and up. My area pretty much rains at least every other day so you get the picture. So cardboard helps with humidity? I figured when you seal something up it gets more humid? Like a cloning dome?

It does get more humid if its like plastic or something. But the paper on the cardboard andpaperbags suck the humidity up. It will also suck the wetness from the buds. (vise versa putting sliced fruit with dry bud will moisturize it)

the cardboard helps to keep the box stable. if you read my whole drying box thread i attach pc fans to it and run them on a timer.

my temps and rh are listed in the thread too.

Yea jondamon I seen your thread. It was really informative. Will probably do something very similar. Have you had any problems with your setup?

no problems with the box at all.
the only thing you will have to do is tailor the timing to suit your needs. i run my box for 6hours total 15mins every hour.

if temps or rh is high where you are you may look to increase this amount
