Dual spectrum vs Single spectrum?

I've seen a good number of growers doing dual spectrum throughout their entire grow.
For example, 2x 6500k and 4x 2700k.

I've always been doing single spectrum for veg/flowering.

I'm just wondering what's best for me.

Naturally, the sun rises at it's brightest kelvin rating and dims down warmer throughout the day right?

If anyone has experimented with this, let me know what your results were and what you found was more beneficial.

I have seedlings at day 6 right now with 3x 6500k 26w cfl-100 watt equivalent bulbs in a rubbermaid tote. Pretty sure I should be using more lights... right? I just want to know if I should go dual spectrum or not.

Thanks:leaf:

How many plants do you have? What size room?
So far I have 2 seedlings in a rubbermaid storage tote. Not sure about the size. I just grabbed it out of my storage room. Probably 20 gallons.

I have the lights set up and wired on the lid of the tote for now so the lights are as close as possible while they veg.

When they get taller, I'll install a 2nd tote on top for more height room.

For a single tote, I think I'm looking at...

30" x 16" x 16".

I'm thinking of getting some bigger totes with more height room.

I can probably grow a max of 2 plants in there I guess

dualspectrum is always better. if you can swing it.
I can.. I have a few 2700k cfl's just laying around waiting for flowering. Not sure about the 2700k to 6500k bulb ratios for veg and flowering though. Say I can install 6 bulbs, how many should be 2700k and how many 6500k while vegging? Then while flowering?

i love dual spectrum

i usually have a 3:1 ratio
lots of 6500k during veg
lots of 2700k during flowering

...or is the other way round? uh....heh i'm to medicated to remember

cannabis has 2 type of chloroplast, one that interacts with the red side of the spectrum and one that interacts with the blue. imo its a waste of your plants energy making potential to use only one spectrum. i always use a mixed spectrum.

Hahah, I'll do 4x 6500k and 2x 2700k for vegging and then vice versa for flowering.
