hey Calvin,
I have been experimenting with ideas along those lines for six months. I never tried dropping the bucket into the fridge, but I did build a couple versions of a tank system. I had hose going to/from the EZ Clone and a small pump.
I was using plastic jugs that hold about 2.5 gal.
Here's what I learned:
Having it pump through constantly didn't work at all. The water never got a chance to get cold.
When I put a second tank in, doubling the amount of water in the fridge at any given time, it helped but still not sufficient.
Got the idea to put the pump on a timer. It came on every 6 hours for 3 minutes, which is how long it took to pump the contents of tanks.
This seemed to work. I only got to use it one time though due to problems with the tanks. I was using polyethylene jugs which NOTHING will stick to so sealing them was a challenge.
I decided to abandon the idea and instead put the cloner in an air conditioned room. I still need to deal with water temps a little, but much easier.
I still have the fridge etc. and I may revive the project at some point.
Caution: I went through a couple fridges lol
I ruined one and I think the other was defective to begin with but I had already altered it when I discovered this.
Wherever you decide to cut/drill through the fridge, take a Dremel or something and cut a "window" out of the plastic inside. Peel away the plastic and insulation to make sure there aren't any cooling lines or wires in the wall.
Good luck, let us know how it goes!
