Duterte: Trump says Philippines tackling drug problem 'the right way'

WTF Trump? Please tell me this is just some kind of media shenanigans. If not we have a president elect who might actually be insane.
Trump can't seriously think the Philippines war on drugs which includes trial-less executions of suspected drug users/dealers by police and vigilantes is the proper way to handle things. Duterte even compared himself to HITLER in a favorable way

This is not the kind of guy you want to find yourself in agreement with.

(CNN)President-elect Donald Trump told Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte that he is going about his controversial fight against drugs "the right way," Duterte said.
Duterte says he was greatly pleased with the "rapport" he had with the newly elected U.S. president..

Duterte made the comments to reporters in Davao City on Saturday after a brief phone call last night with President-elect Donald Trump. Government officials earlier passed along snippets of their conversation.
"He was quite sensitive to our war on drugs and he wishes me well in my campaign and said that we are doing, as he so put it, 'the right way,' " the President said.
Washington has been critical of the Philippines handling of drug dealers, including extrajudical killings -- government executions without the benefit of judicial proceedings. That has sparked Duterte's resentment.
Duterte's verbal tirades and tilt away from Washington have raised many eyebrows since he took office in May.
While on a trip to China in October, Duterte said that "America has lost," and that he has realigned himself with China's "ideological flow." He later clarified his comments about relations with the United States saying he was rather pursuing a "separation of foreign policy" from the US.
But Duterte was pleased over the exchange with Trump.
He described Trump as "animated" and said they talked about "a lot of things." Duterte said he told Trump Filipinos "are tight with America" and wished Trump success.
"He was wishing me success in my campaign against the drug problem. He understood the way we are handling it and he said there is nothing wrong with protecting your country. It was very encouraging in the sense that I suppose that what he wanted to say was that he would be the last to interfere in the affairs of our own country. "
Both men extended travel invitations to the other.
"He has invited me to visit New York and Washington DC. He said if I am around he wants to be notified of my presence. And I mentioned to him about the ASEAN Summit next year and he said he would try his best to be here. He wants to attend the summit and that would be great for our country. I could sense a good rapport."
Trump's transition team passed along a comment about the call but didn't mention Duterte's war on drugs.
"Duterte "offered his congratulatory wishes to President-elect Trump. In their conversation, they noted the long history of friendship and cooperation between the two nations, and agreed that the two governments would continue to work together closely on matters of shared interest and concern."

Philippines' deadly drug war praised by Donald Trump, says Rodrigo Duterte
Philippines leader says US president-elect felt drug war which has killed thousands was being fought ‘the right way’

US President-elect Donald Trump has praised Philippines leader Rodrigo Duterte for his controversial war on drugs in which thousands have died, Duterte said on Saturday following a phone call between the leaders.

The Philippine president called Trump on Friday evening to congratulate him on his victory and Trump wished him “success” in his controversial crackdown, in which 4,800 people have been killed since June, according to Duterte.

“He was quite sensitive also to our worry about drugs. And he wishes me well ... in my campaign and he said that ... we are doing it as a sovereign nation, the right way,” Duterte said in a statement.

An aide to the Philippines president earlier said Trump invited him to the White House next year during a “very engaging, animated” phone conversation.

Insane as predicted.

Narcissistic Sociopath, a dangerous combo.

For the first time in life I don't mind that I'm old and may die at any time. Beats moving to Canada, beats moving anywhere. Not much to look forward to except hate and discontent.

The golden days of weed are over. Trump is going to close it down. No way will recreational survive with all the old grey side-partings as executives, praising that fool in Manila indicates his views and possible future action, medical will go to big pharma (good people) and be taken from the artisans ( bad hombres). Fuk Donald Trump

Two arguements for TRUMP! keeping it. 1. Profit, 2. Soma - if it brings in money, stays out of their back yard and allows appearance of liberty... why not? I expect some sort of marijuana show trial in the TRUMP! cabinet. Donald may step in and settle the question. Not everybody is willing to piss off the Klan like Sessions.

I don't know uncle, it's not a coincidence that all the legal States are blue. If they feel any profits are funding political agenda, it could spell doom for the emerging industry.

That is a good point. Even if red state voters want to catch a tasty buzz, they will vote in Congressmen who vote against it. "Pro weed" usually means other politically deplorable ideas like Pro-choice. So they won't have legal weed. This will force them to create a nationwide policy. Nobody likes it when their neighbors are doing things that they want to - but can't.

It was funny as shit when medical was passed in Cali. After a few years, some of the biggest anti pot Republicans( even cops ) were growing for profit, I guess they were a little jealous of their neighbors:-)

Former Yuba County deputy indicted on drug charged
Nevada County Sheriff's Office |
Christopher Mark Heath

Yuba County sheriff’s deputy Christopher Mark Heath conspired with his mother-in-law, a postal worker, to ship packages of marijuana across the country for profit for 15 months before the narcotics agent was arrested, it is alleged in a federal indictment unsealed last week.

Heath, 37, his brother-in-law, Tyler Neil Long, 32, and Ryan Jay Falsone, 27, were arrested in York County, Pa., on Dec. 29 and accused of driving across the country to deliver 247 pounds of packaged marijuana to a buyer who turned out to be an undercover drug agent. Heath, who at the time was a NET-5 narcotics investigator, was armed with a loaded Glock firearm and his sheriff’s badge during the delivery, court documents say.

The three Butte County men arrived in a York County court for a hearing in that case Thursday, but were instead removed from the building by federal agents. Criminal charges in the York County court were dropped, and the men now face more serious federal charges.

A grand jury returned a 19-count indictment that charges all three Butte County men and Ramona Marcel Long, 56, with conspiracy to manufacture and distribute marijuana, and conspiracy to launder drug proceeds. Heath is also charged with possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

The maximum penalty for conspiracy to distribute 100 kilograms and more of marijuana is 40 years imprisonment, lifetime supervised release and a $2 million fine. The mandatory minimum sentence is five years in prison.

Heath was released on his own recognizance and was returning to California, said one of his attorneys, Roberto Marquez.

The defendants allegedly grew marijuana on property in Oroville and sold about 200 pounds of processed marijuana through shipments primarily using the post office. In return, nearly $500,000 in drug proceeds were shipped to a post office box that the defendants rented in Bangor.

The indictment says Ramona Long, a lead service and sales associate with the U.S. Postal Service, used her position to allow packages of marijuana to be shipped undetected by law enforcement.

Twelve packages of marijuana ranging in size from 3.44 pounds to 13.69 pounds were allegedly shipped, beginning in September 2014, to addresses in Pennsylvania.

Heath was on vacation from the Sheriff’s Department when he was arrested in Pennsylvania, Yuba County Undersheriff Jerry Read said. The deputy was immediately placed on administrative leave and resigned soon after his arrest.

He also faces a single felony count of possession of an assault rifle in Butte County for an unregistered modified semiautomatic rifle. He has pleaded not guilty.

Heath’s arrest prompted a Department of Justice audit of the Yuba-Sutter drug and gang task force, where he had been the lead investigator on more than 60 cases, including a federal marijuana trafficking case. The fate of many of those cases is yet to be determined.

Investigators released their audit report to law enforcement leaders that oversee the task force, but the report was not made public.

Council chair and Sutter County District Attorney Amanda Hopper said investigators found no indication that any illegal activity took place within task force activities.

Nevertheless, Sheriff Steven Durfor said he was outraged by Heath’s alleged actions.
