So does the plant show signs that the ppm is off? I looked up the ppm on the city water site a couple months ago and I thought it was in what you would call an acceptable range. The city says the water "hardness" range in my area is about 120 to 220 ppm. Can I go with that, or do I really need the meter. Thanks for the input.

To be truthful I only used a PPM Meter for a little bit with my grow. For me I just needed it for my first couple weeks of my first grow to find out how my plants responded to my nutrients. This is my opinion and willing to change if someone can prove me wrong. My first grow I had one plant with a dry weight of a little over 3ozs, not bad I'm told. But this is just my little experience. Only real problem I had was the PH Meter not being checked soon enough and the PH was out of control. But I had solution to check it and fixed this issue right away when I noticed a problem. I'm hoping to get pictures of this grow soon but only started to flower one and have 3 veging now. Happy growing!!

I find new things on riu all the time and today, BANG!, I find this thread.
Moved out of soil after 30 some years and built me a lil' shed out back.
2-1000 watts for flower 600 watts for veg.
Igloo coolers with 3 pumps running four elite 6 inch stones for a total of 12 stones per cooler.
1 plant per cooler this round and I have 6 more vegging.
Nutes are GH
I'm 5 days out from harvest,,,,,

The ppm pen is used as you mix your nutrients. Yes as you get more experance you will use it less I guess but I use mine every day to monitor my plants. Your tap water is a touch high but I wouldnt worry to much about it. Heres how it works. You check plain tap water to find your base. Say 200ppm You now add you nutrients to bring it up to say 800ppm. You have added 600ppm of nutrients to your water. You can now fill your dwc with the nutrient solution that has a known ppm value.
Now you check the next day and the ppm is now down to say 600ppm. That would indicate your plants used 200ppm of your nutrient solution. You now know what your plants eat. You can now watch for changes and react before things get out of hand. So lets say you check the ppm and it didnt change any. Well that would indicate your plants are not feeding. Time to find out why. You will also be able to flush effectively. You just keep changing the water with fresh water. Check the ppm. It will climb as osmosis pulls nutrients into the plain water. Keep dumping it out and putting in fresh water till the ppm is the same as from the tap. Now you know all the nutrients are flushed out.

What's up club, been a while since I stopped by.
Hey I have a question for those who have had some experience doing clones.
Since I am only doing a 1 maybe 2 plant grow every 3 - 4 months, I don't really have a need to have a lot of clones ready.
My issue is that when I get the clones going, the clones roots tend to want to keep growing and growing, eventually they get too big to take them out of the cloner with out having to damage the roots.
In this new cloner I have built, It has only 6 2.5" holes in the top so I think I should be good with the roots.
The only other issue I see my self having, is keeping those clones small enough but healthy enough to stay alive while I wait for my main plant to flower, and be harvested.
Can any one give me some pointers on how to best go about this whole process?

Take the cuttings just as you move them to flower. You then have 2 months till you need to replace the flowering plants. So if your cuttings take a week or two to really root you have 45 days or so to get your clones to be big enough to move to flowering. This works very well for me and I dont need to keep mother plants around so I can keep my numbers legal.

The plant seemed to be doing better again this afternoon, sucking up a decent amount of water since last night, but sure enough, by the time I get home tonight. It's sagging again. There is a small amount of discoloration on the roots, for which I bought some hygrozyme. do you think that would solve my problems? And judging from my pictures, is there anything else I can do? more nutes, less nutes, raise the light, etc...?

They do like the bubbles they get from those pumps. the depth of the water stays constant in the cooler the 6 inch stones pump out the most volume.
i hang them above the water line just in case the power goes out,,,,,,

still have to get 4 coolers, pegboard, insulated styrofoam, tape, chain and hangers....

No its not. It was caused by a problem I had with the roots. I had to cut them all off and what was left wasnt enough to support the plant. It bounced back fine though as that was a long time ago

Does this count as a DWC? It's taken from Heath Robinsons flooded tube idea. The plants are in netpots sitting in 4" drain pipe. The water flows through the tubes with them a little over halfway full at all times. The water dumps out into a big rez underneath. The whole system runs on about 7-10 gallons. I have air stones for each plant.
One beautiful thing is I filled the rez up to 26 gallons and left the whole setup alone for 10 days (vacation). All was well upon return except for the worlds worst stretch. You can see it on the main stalk in the middle.
Light is 250... but I have a 1000w being delivered in a few days.
