DWC inside chest freezer

call me crazy but i had an idea, would it be possible to use a small chest freezer as a reservoir, my reasoning for thinking this was that if it was on low setting it could keep water temps just right, no frozen water bottles & no expensive chillers, good old walfart has a 3.5-cu. ft, l 24" x w 24" x h 34", i know i know its kinda tall, but if you have the height...... whats everyones thoughts

peace

This was posted a while ago and I was wondering whether anyone has attempted this or has any thoughts?

I don’t know man, sounds doable for sure, I could see running a coil of plastic tubing in there just like the copper worm in a still. But it’d be a slushy mess if it sprung a leak.
I bought a chiller for my reservoir and really like it but I can see the advantages in McGyvering something up. You’d probably wind up having to get a pump that you could control the flow rate on. That way you could regulate the temp of the solution with the flow rate. That’s not hard either; the ActiveAqua line pumps are adjustable if I remember right.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I'm not sure I follow you.

With regard to regulating the temp of the solution, would the chest freezer not do this itself?
If the freezer on/off was controlled by a thermostat controller, link below, it could maintain the temperature of what is inside.

Yeah you’re right about that, the freezer will have a range of temps it can be set to. But you’re going to need a pump to circulate the solution. My point was it would give you another way to control the temp of the solution if you had an adjustable pump.
If you’re going to go buy a freezer and that inkbird controller to chill your solution you’re spending a bit of money; it might be easier to spend a little more and get a chiller in the first place. If you had a freezer already then just picking up the inkbird is a pretty low cost solution.
