i got one question for you veterans of hydroponics would making a mesh to simulate hard substrate to give support but still wide enough to grow maximum thickness of roots. would it be better than not putting it in. i allways get a hammer shape of roots

I'm experimenting with using food grade cannabis dehydration mesh as a medium for DWC.

Not to grow cannabis though, but for hydroponic microgreens. Cutting sheets to fit into 10x20 mesh bottom trays.

I can re-use it over and over without ever buying medium again.

You bring up a good question though. I've never really seen an in depth study on manipulating DWC root structures with screens or anything else.

Can you give me a link to this material, please?

I only watched the first video so far. Very neat idea. So, is that what you're going to do now - his method? It appears as though it's just a mesh bottom tray inside a regular tray, with no extra "material" of any sort.

Thanks for sharing.

Edit: My question is probably answered in the other videos, or first comments/questions. I'll watch'em.
Thanks again.

Ya he uses his microgreen DWC kits in his newer videos. Shallow tray in a deeper tray with extra water and aeration.

Yes, I'm using 1020 mesh bottoms, and screen as the only medium. I always invent my own methods though ;)

Back on topic though, many have tried using mesh/grates to manipulate the root systems, and made it work. You can.
