How far along are your plants in your DWC pots? I experienced this with one of my 1st grows... It was mould on the root system, its a mingin smell, If it is this chances are your roots will be yellow or brown instead of the prefered white.. you can get anti-mould nuits if its in the early stages, or like me ignore it and just deal with a smaller yield, and messy/smelly clean up job after! a good way to avoid getting root rott. is make sure your air-stone-bubbler has not got restricted air flow, make sure your DWC-res. nuits are cooler than grow room temps not icey!! I'd say between 12oC and 18oC and next to no light penetrates the rooting enviroment (keep it real - roots dont see light when in soil :) ) another good point is to PH balance your tap water in your res to around 6.5 that way the plants will drink up all of what you feed them and not fall prone to illness! remember light.air, warmth, and stale water more often or not will = mould so take super care of being clean and keeping your growroom in check.. Hope this helps - STELTHY

they are about 3 days along lol. this is the first time adding nutes to the res. ph is 5.5-6.0. room temp is 80 all day. everything is brand new and clean. everything is working perfect. the smell seems to be weakening. just have to wait and see. Holy Crap. Water Temp is 78-80... :D time to do some modifications.

When seeking adivce for DWC, make sure the person giving advice is referring to a DWC set up.

Proper res maintenece means

at least 1 wt air pump per gallon of res
multiple air stones
water temps around 68f
no light reaching the water
NO organic material in the res EVER

Deviate from this and you strongly invite root disease

I would imagine the smell you speak of is because your res is too warm. Switch out the water ASAP give the root ball a good rinse use a low pressure shower or something. Make sure you have no light leaks into your bucket. If you can’t get your temps down by playing around invest in a cooler. I would also recommend getting a product called great white it’s a great way to keep your roots healthy
