DWC: the beginning

Hey everyone. After a long time watching and reading these forums and looking over the shoulders of some friends I've started a small deep water culture (bubbleponics? too many names goin around). My seedlings are strong and about one week old. They're a bit taller than I'd like (about 4-5cm) for just having starter leaves on them, but the roots looked great. The seeds were germinated and then put into 1" rock wool where they've been for the past 6 days. There are some ~1cm roots coming out the bottom of the cubes and all looks strong and healthy.

Now the real question. Given my description above, does anyone feel it's to early to go into the DWC system? Should they stay in the rockwool a bit longer?

Thanks!

They stay in the rockwool, from start to finish, you just add them to the system, in the cubes. Actually, you can start the seeds in the cubes in the System, if you have feeder tubes going to the cups. If not, you move the cubes to the DWC system when you get roots long enough to reach the water.
Remember to spray the perimeter of the grow area, the floor, baseboards, corners, with HOMEGUARD or a good all purpose insecticide. Spider Mites will find a damp dark area and ruin your harvest.

Roseman,

Thanks for the message. I had actually already put the rockwool + clay balls into my net pots prior to reading your message. Roots are alredy an inch out of the pots and looking strong. Added one more airstone to the setup today... working well so far. The reservoir is a small folgers coffee container... pretty rediculous to be honest. It's a bit annoying at first but once you get used to it, she really works well. Plants can't get too big though, just not enough room for roots. My big DWC tub is under construction tonight and the folgers setup will then be used for some cilantro in the back yard.

There used to be a lady or girl here, that tried DIY Hydro, and she had pics. I think her name was Fairy Princess, but I am not sure. She took styrafoam cups and poked and cut hundreds of holes in them, and used them for a grow cup. She used drive way gravel for the hydroton, and she used a dish washing sponge for the rockwool cube, she cut it up into little one inch squares . She grew in old used paint buckets and any one to five gallon bucket she could find. She used about 20 42 watt CFLs, she glued tin foil to card board and made reflectors and she got amazing plants and an amazing harvest.

Home Depot has 5 gallon buckets for like $3. Those will allow for plenty of root growth. Which means you can grow some monsters. What strands are you growing?
