yea, i would say its the soil as well, your girl is a little to small to be getting those high concentrations of all the BS MG has.

its not anything like that. i can see from the pics that you tried to top them? if this is the case you just did it to early and they are recovering slowly. it does look like you topped them. sorry if wrong. get that light 1 inch away from the plant and itll come around. and ya dont use miracle grow.
