Easedropping/Tapping/Tracking.. few questions.

What's up everyone?

With the U.S.A. government starting to get more invasive with being able to 'wire-tap' or 'ease-drop' into your phones/house/car. That's scary to me because that means that they can pretty much do whatever they want. I mean, they're the government! They run things around here and there's really no group or government above them.. to give them orders/permissions or anything else. In other words, there's nobody to "investigate" them.

I doubt anyones watching my IP and tracking/watching/reading exactly what I'm doing. I mean to be 100% honest.. I like to help around here and check out other users grow journals.. but here for the past few weeks my modem's been acting weird. I've got cable internet.. and my cable modem has been going offline alot here the past 3 weeks or so. It only stays off for like 30seconds or a minute or so.. and then comes back on. It could just be my modem settings/connection settings.. they could be off some or something. Or, my modem could have something wrong with it.. it could be getting ready to die on me.. who knows. But it does kind of mess with my head.. hate that shit. But is that even possible? Could they tap your modem?

I'm aware of the current technology in the spying/tracking field.. such as GPS locators and other devices.. for tracking moving objects such as:

people; cars; animals; atv's; etc..... pretty much anything that moves.

anyhow, what's everyones thoughts and opinions about this subject??

I don't think they're going into your personal life with devices worth about 1k each. Your not a big threat to them, now lets say you were a king pin yes. Crystal meth lab, yes. Marijuana growing, smoking, small time dealing (your a small time if you don't grow\sell kilos fast).

Never ask a cop for a warrant to enter your house, just say no or step out ;) I'm not totally sure but I think they can't have voice recorders within your house and be legal to use that. Tap the phone yes, I'm pretty sure they don't need to tell you that they have a warrant and do it when your not home.

I feel the shut up new guy coming on but I think I can add some input here. I read a book about the whole John gotti case they actually had recorders all around his house and places hung out. However those were federal agents FBI I believe and the reach of federal government is way farther than state and local police. Either way they would need a warrant to do anything like that. However I was told it's a lot easier to get a warrant now thanks to the patriot act. I'm not as familiar with the patriot act as I should be though.

They do not need GPS trackers attached to your car, you probably carry it with you. It's called your cell phone. By law all cell phones in the us now have gps location installed, which the police can turn on at will. I had a close call about a year and half ago, and have moved twice since then. The police have tracked me both times thru my cell. I know this to be fact because I have HEARD them discussing it. Really slick of them to be talking so much within earshot... lol. All they need is your phone number and you
can be easily tracked via software. Not just your current location either, your movements through out the day week or month can be readily mapped. And they can and do do this without even the need for a warrant.

I now have several net10 phones, and change them regularly. It seems to prevent random stops, and casual unexpected encounters if you know what I mean. Don't be paranoid, be pro-active. Use a digital police scanner! Uniden's close call mode is the bomb. Anyone uses a radio transmitter within a half mile or so, you are listening in! Yea they are expensive, but cheaper than a lawyer. Use security cams with a DVR, especially over your garbage cans and covering the street. Those simple steps will let you know days or weeks before they try to come for a visit. That scanner caught a police womans body wire as she knocked on my door, under the guise of a mortgage inspection for my landlord. "I'm going in now, wish me luck" knock knock knock... I MIGHT have thought she was really a mortgage inspector IF I hadn't had that radio on. I KNEW I had nothing to hide at that point so I chose to let her in. But the radio gave me the OPTION to chose.

Another trick that they have tried is knocking on the door stating that they had a call for help. So thoughtful of them to ask if I need help without me ever having to even call first! This is in order to try to perform a warantless search. I won't even answer the door in this situation. NEVER EVER let them in without a warrant no matter what excuse they give. Never volunteer any information of any kind. Immediately ask for your attorney to be present if you are questioned. They must stop questioning you once you ask for an attorney.
